Because of his electrical engineering as well as his accounting
background, Virgil Blank spent much of his working career consulting,
lecturing, and writing about the revolutionary change then going
on in accounting for data using computers instead of punch-card
and other mechanical methods. After a successful career at Deloitte
and Touche in their San Francisco and Honolulu offices, Virgil
now enjoys an active retirement in Hawaii where he says he "runs
out of time every day." "I made the decision to turn
my back on business and learn other things when I retired," says
Virgil, who has lived in Hawaii for 37 years. When he first retired,
Virgil started out doing wood carving and cabinetry and then
moved on to studying Japanese and Chinese. That in turn led him
to study Chinese art and, as a result, he has become quite accomplished
at Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, exhibiting and selling
his paintings to collectors across the country. Having Financial
Navigator as his "right hand" has helped him to easily
keep his financial affairs in order so that he has time to pursue
his interests and enjoy life in Hawaii.
"We have a joint trust that requires good record keeping," notes
Virgil. "I make use of most of the functions of Financial
Navigator, and it helps me keep track of securities, produces
financial statements and provides 90% of the tax information
I need. It’s not an overbearing process at all." He
first learned about Navigator in 1989 from some of
his former associates at Deloitte and Touche who had evaluated
the program and had considered it appropriate for use by many
of their small business clients. He started using it in 1990.
"I am not hesitant to tell people about Navigator," says
Virgil. "It is one of the best record-keeping and financial-reporting
products on the market and I have lost count of the number of
people I have recommended it to."
"The user support is very good," adds Virgil. "They
are very responsive whether it be by email or phone. I haven't
had any real glitches to speak of, but I have needed a little
help, and they have always been very responsive to any suggestions
I have provided regarding the program."
