Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS)
The GIPS standards are a set of financial reporting principles based on the fundamental concepts of full disclosure and fair representation of investment performance results. These are now global standards of reporting designed to give investors around the world the additional transparency they need to compare and
evaluate investment managers. The GIPS standards were created and are administered by CFA Institute, the global, not-for-profit association of investment professionals that awards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) designations.
Financial Navigator, Inc. believes the GIPS standards represent a major step forward for investors. We support our clients in taking advantage of the standards in the reporting they receive from their managers and in the reporting they provide their clients.
Only investment management firms can claim full GIPS compliance. Software vendors cannot claim compliance because calculation methodology is only one of the many requirements. Some Navigator products use GIPS calculations methods for Time Weighted Returns and Money Weighted Returns, which firms are required to use to achieve compliance.
