During the process of reconciling I had a problem with a deposit. When including the deposit with the others, it reconciles to the bank statement. However, If I clear the transaction, then it will not reconcile and is off that amount. I have deleted the transaction and input it again. I have tested and corrected. I have searched to see if it was a duplication but cannot determine that it is even though it appears to be. The account reconciled last month. Can anyone give me a clue about how to find the problem? Thanks.

It sounds like you've gone through your records very carefully and yet you can't find the error. These kinds of errors can be very frustrating.

A variety of computer hardware and/or data entry problems may cause you FN data files to become corrupted. This can occur, for example, if the power goes out while you are using the program or if there are damaged areas on your hard drive.

The Test & Correct Files utilities are designed to fix these sorts of problems. To do this,

  1. First back up your data files.
  2. Select Utilities | Test & Correct Files | All of the Above.
  3. As the system runs through the tests, make note of any corrections the system makes.

Now look at the account. If you're still having problems after running Test & Correct, do the following:

  1. Go to Report Selection
  2. Select the Transactions by Account report for the checking account. Be sure to select the month with the problem.
  3. Determine whether there are any transactions posted from another journal. If test & correct says the balances are fine, then the activity must be from another account(journal).
  4. Delete the incorrect transaction and re-enter in the proper journal.

If you're still having problems, please return to this topic, hit "post reply" and describe the situation.

One further note:
Test & Correct Files is and important part of system maintenance. I make it a point to run this utility at least monthly on all my data files, "just in case."

Be sure to select Yes when Test & Correct | Balances for Accounts asks if you have backed up your data. If you select No, it will not check your balances.
