I am using version 7.5. In the summary reconciliation report, the Balance{per FN) is much less than the balance reflected in the general ledger cash account for that particular bank. Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

There are several steps you can take to resolve this issue prior to having to check all transactions for the affected journal to find the error.
  1. Back up your current data files.
  2. Make sure you are running the most current version of 7.5. Do a software update by following the steps on the post: Software Update from FN.
  3. Run the Test and Correct Utilities to clean up any corrupted files. See the steps on the forum post: Test and Correct Utility
  4. Verify no transactions for the affected bank journal were made in the FN General Journal.

Regarding step 4:

  • Make sure you have not posted any transactions to the general journal ledger in FN in which one of the sides of the transaction was the bank journal transaction. When you do transaction entry in the general journal in FN (or any other journal where the transfer clearing account option is not on), the balances for the accounts used for the transaction are affected, but the transaction entries are not reflected in the actual bank transaction activity screen. Any transactions that affect a bank journal should be done in that bank journal (category and account) transaction activity.
  • Run a transaction by account for your affected bank journal to locate any transactions that might have been done in another journal and not reflected in the transaction activity of the affected bank journal.

Please reply to this post if your problem is not resolved.
