My client has continued to experience "unreconciled differences" in her check reconcilation. This month I asked her to hold the bank statement and I did the check reconciliation. What I find is that each month the unreconciled difference ("amount to reconcile") increases by the same amount (in this case, $745.32). Can you give me some help in actions to take to uncover the cause of this consistent increase in the difference reported in the check reconciliation function? I recall that in the past the software did not handle the instance of a "memorized transaction" that had changed in "total" but had not been updated/revised in detail, generating an error situation in the data files. How can I easily find the cause of the difference, if this is the likey cause? Thank you .

Hello Guy, thank you for posting.First try running Utilities | Test & Correct Files | All of the Above. This will audit the data and find and fix any transactions or accounts with a problem. Second, could you describe the order of steps you are taking and the results? I would like to re-create your situation to isolate the problem. Also, could you tell me: 1. What version of FN are you using? Please see the post What is the latest version of FN? for more information. The latest version of FN is 8.1.2. 2. Does this problem occur in more than one entity? 3. Does this problem occur in any other years for this entity? ------------------------------------------ George Technical Support Financial Navigator Int’l [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 05-13-2003).]

George - Sorry for the delay - the problem persists. Version: 8.0.8 Occurs: one in one entity at this time; client has at least 5 entities. They have used FN for years and years, and this is the only entity, only incidence of its occurrence. Years: the problem has been occuring in this entity for the last two or three years; we had not isolated the problem in this manner until nowWhat the client is doing in order to re-create: nothing but writing checks, making deposits; nothing more sophisticated in this account Version issue: please do not recommend upgrading to latest version until this is resolved Thanks for the help. Look forward to your reply. - Guy

Are all the transactions cleared for all journals from previous years? In other words there are not outstanding transactions from last year?If so, then backup the data files and delete last years transactions by selecting Utilitlies | System Configuration | Delete Last Year's Transactions. This will remove all transactions that were carried over from last year. If this problem has been happening for the last two years, then the "outstanding" transaction may be in last year's transactions. Let us know if this does or does not solve the problem.

Thanks for your reply.Whether the problem relates to a transaction from prior years or not, a new "problem" is generated each month. In the first posting I noted: "What I find is that each month the unreconciled difference ("amount to reconcile") increases by the same amount (in this case, $745.32). " I reviewed all multiple distribution entries to ensure that there was no dollar amount without an associated account, and each such entry appears complete and correct. Any more ideas? Thanks for your help.

Did you delete the transactions from last year? Then run test & correct for All of the above.

... I deleted prior year transactions and corrected balances and the report included the $775.34 in several months, along with other amounts - the "change in account balances" column on the summary trial balance clear outOther than cash, each entry affected one expense account. What is going on in that account to generate this problem? Do you expect the problem is now eliminated? Thanks again. - Guy

Yes, I think this eliminated the problem. Running Test & Correct audits the transactions and the account balances against each other. If anything does not agree it will fix it or display a message. It is a good utility to run to audit the system. Account balances can disagree with the transactions if the balances are changed directly with Balances for Accounts from Accounts menu. Also if some problem occurs and the transaction gets messed up or miss posted, then this utility will find and fix them or display a message. Please let us know if the problem occurs again.
