Just recently we have incurred a problem where the MICR information at the bottom of the check (ck#, routing # and bank account #) is printing in an Ariel font rather than the computer readable font. Is there a way to change the font for the MICR information?

Note: This only occurs when we print checks from a particular computer. This problem does not occur when printing checks from other computers. We have one designated check printer.

It sounds as if the MICR font may not be activated on this workstation. To see if this is the case:

1. Open the CheckForm Settings window. To get to the CheckForm Settings window, hit Select Printer in the window where you view the check. From there, select CFN Settings.
2. Below the Transit Code and On-Us Code, it should show how it appears in MICR font. If it is displaying them in Arial, then the MICR font needs to be activated.

To Activate the MICR font:

1. Start on your Windows Desktop.
2. Open your C:/Windows/Fonts folder which will refresh your fonts list.
3. Look for a font in that folder named MICR. If you see it listed, try running CheckForm again and see if the MICR now appears. If you don't see that font listed, follow the instructions below to perform a workstation installation of CheckForm.

To perform a workstation installation of CheckForm:

1. Run the CheckForm setup file here: http://www.finnav.com/downloads/CF40setup.exe.
2. When prompted, select Workstation Installation.
3. For the Destination Folder, browse to your Navigator program directory if it doesn't by default (i.e. C:\FN).
4. Select Next to finish the install.

At your nearest convenience, please let me know if this solves your problem. If you run into any problems performing a workstation installation of CheckForm 4.0, please call our Customer Service Department.

Thank you for your reply to our question.

We checked the window where we view the check and the MICR font does appear correct. But it doesn't print the way it appears.

We checked the Windowss Font folder and found the MICR font there dated 8/2/06.

We believe that this problem may have started after our latest McAfee update.

I tried re-installing the CheckForm 4.0 but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any other suggestions?

How does the MICR look in the Print Preview Screen? Is it in Arial or does it look fine like in the CF Settings window?

The print preview of the check looks fine - it shows the MICR font, but when the check is printed, the numbers at the bottom print in Ariel (or something similar to Ariel).

It sounds like it may be a problem with the printer then. If you have another printer, I would suggest trying to print from there just as a test. If it prints fine, you may want to try to checking the driver of the malfunctioning printer. You can do this by:

1. Selecting Printers and Faxes from the Start Menu.
2. Right-click the appropriate printer and select Properties.
3. In the Advanced tab, select New Driver and follow the instructions to make sure the correct driver is installed for the corresponding printer model.

Let me know how it turns out when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Rob
