This problem can occur if a necessary file has been replaced by an incorrect version. Reinstall FN from the original CD or floppy diskettes. Follow the steps for installation in the reference material. Select the Custom Installation and reinstall only the Windows library files. This reinstalls the out-of-date file.

When reinstalling FN make sure the CD that is being used is a Production version of FN 8.0 and not an Early release version.

I followed the instructions and used the custom installation feature to reinstall the Windows files. That did not work. I then proceeded to do a complete installation. That was also unsuccessful. You should be aware that I have gone out to your site and installed the latest version in the past. What should I do? I am desperate; I need to complete my 2000 Federal income tax return. HELP!!!!

After you did the complete install again, did you do a software update so that you have the latest version on your computer now? It should be 8.0.4.

Glad to hear everything is working.
Installation of another program may have copied windows library files that created the problem. So I would not recommend installing other programs until after you get your taxes done.
These windows library files may have a newer date but really be an older version. Since FN does version checking then it would not copy over them if they have an newer date. By looking in the installation log file, fnwin80.log, you will see what files did and did not get copied. The uninstall removed these files so the new installation would copy the correct version.
Good luck with your taxes. Thank you for using the Navigator Users Forum.
