You can view and edit a report’s header and footer in the report grid. However, changes to the header and footer are not saved. You can see this if you select a report and then choose Screen. Then select Format | Report Layout. The Layout tab and the Margins tab have a box "Apply Settings to" that allows you to choose to save changes to this report or all reports. However, the Header tab and the Footer tab do not have this ability. Changes to the Header and Footer in Report Layout need to be made every time the report is run.
However, a simple footer can be saved for all financial and tax reports as follows:
- Select File from the main Financial Navigator menu.
- Select Change Entity Name
- Select OK twice
- In the box Message at the Bottom of Financial and Tax Report, type the text you wish to appear on the bottom of your reports.
- Select OK.
This will appear on the bottom of all Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Tax Reports. You can change the wording or color of this footer in Report Layout, but these changes must be made each time the report is run. Each time you come back to the report, the footer will appear as it is designated in "Chanage Entity Name."
One part of your question confuses me:

I also want to change the background color on the header and footer. I go into set header and footer font and chose a background color. It does not print on the report.
I'm not sure what you mean by "background color." As described above, you can use Report Layout to make one-report-only changes to the Header or Footer, including the text color. For example, it would be possible to have the header text print in red. However, there is no setting in Financial Navigator for changing the background color (e.g. white text on a black background).
