When I post a partial sale of a security it often creates 2 sold security accounts duplicating the entry. While it doesn't duplicate the gain/loss or the cash entry it reduces the original shares by a duplicate number of shares sold. Why is this occuring?

Hello, thank you for posting your question. Let’s gather some more information to isolate your problem: 1. What version of FN are you using? Please see the post What is the latest version of FN? for more information. The latest version of FN is 8.1.2. 2. Are you using BrokerLink to post your investment transactions? 3. What version of Windows are you using? (98, ME, 2000, XP) 4. Does this problem occur in another entity or the sample data? 5. You said this problem “often” occurs. Are you able to consistently re-produce the problem or does it happen randomly? Let me know what you find out. --------------------------------------------- George Technical Support Financial Navigator Int’l

George -- Answers follow: 1. Using FN *.0 2. Posting manually 3. Windows XP 4. Only 1 entity personal finances 5. This seems to happen when I finsih a sale and try to go on to the next and the same screen I just finished with comes back up. I close it and it asks me to save before exiting. I do and a double stock sold account is created. It doesn't always happen so I gues the answer is random.Don

Hello Don, thanks for the detailed reply. It’s sounds like you might be experiencing a “double-popup” error that occured with FN 8.0 and WindowsXP. This problem was fixed in FN version 8.0.8. Please do a Software Update in Financial Navigator to obtain the latest version of FN 8.0.8. Please see the post Software Update from FN for more information. Let me know if this solves your problem. --------------------------------------------- George Technical Support Financial Navigator

Don,I have been unable to re-produce this problem with XP Pro & FN 8.0.8. What edition of XP are you using, XP Home or XP Pro? Locate the file vsflex7l.ocx with Windows Explorer. What is the version number of this file? Right click on the file and select Properties. Click on the Version tab to view the file’s version number. You say the double pop-up happens on every Multiple Distribution entry. Could you pinpoint exactly where it happens when recording an entry? To help us re-create the problem, could you describe the steps you take and note where the double pop-up occurs? Try recording your entire entry using only your keyboard instead of your mouse. Does the problem still occur? (Note: you can bring up your Payee and Account list by pressing Alt + L when your cursor is in that field). Try the same process but use different keystrokes or mouse clicks. Does the problem always occur regardless of how you record the entry? Let me know what you find out. --------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

George -- I'm using XP Home. I've tried to find the file you indicated and I have made a search of all files and folders in my computer and can't find the file. As far as my search results the file is not on my computer anywhere. As I watch the search it never looks in FN. Should it? I haven't been able to reproduce as I haven't had any security sales. What next?Don

Don,Yes, that file should normally be located in your Financial Navigator folder. Use Windows Explorer to browse to your FN folder or you can search for the file by: 1. Select Start | Search 2. Select All files and folders 3. All or Part of the Filename: vsflex7l.ocx 4. Look in: Local Hard Drives or browse to your FN folder. Once you have found the file, right click on it and select Properties, and then select the Version tab to find out the version number. Please try to reproduce the problem by doing partial sales in the Sample data. The sample data is normally located in your FN folder (e.g. C:\FN\Sample\). You can either set up new securities and then do partial sales or use the securities already in the Sample data. In any case, please describe the steps you take and note where the double pop-up occurs. Also, please try using only the keyboard to perform your entries as detailed in the previous post. Let me know what you find out. -------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

George -- I recreated a sale of a security in the Sample Data. The same thing happened. The version of the vsflex7L.ocx is 7.0.0.131. The double pop-up occurs as soon as I finish the transaction and click OK. Then it pops up again rather than going back to the trasaction register.I then looked to see if 2 Sold -Security accounts were created from the sale and there were. The only place I used the mouse was to click OK. Don

Don,It looks like you have the correct version of the vsflex7L.ocx file. That is good to verify. Let’s try re-sizing the Account column on the transaction register and then re-create partial sales. To resize the Account column on the transaction register: 1. Move the mouse pointer to the boundary on the side of the column header. 2. Click and drag the mouse to increase the size of the column. Try to make the size of the Account column very wide at first. Then re-create a security sale in the Sample Data as before. Experiment with different widths for the Account column. If the double pop-up still occurs then try changing the width of the other columns as well. Let us know what you find out. --------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l
