Good question. The short answer is, "not much." I'd recommend you leave it unchecked and update prices all at once (manually or using PriceLink, StockWeb, or BrokerLink). Here's the long answer: - If the Update Price/share box is checked, Navigator updates the “Price per Share” and “Valuation Date” fields on A&L screen for only that account and only when you have a partial sale transaction in that account or are purchasing additional shares in same account.
- Other security transactions like purchase of same security in a new account or sale of the entire lot do not update “Price per Share” and “Valuation Date” even if the Update Price/share box is checked.
- Even when Navigator updates those fields, the balance for that account is not, nor is a transaction created in Unrealized Gain/Loss. Some reports will notice that the price has changed and may recalculate the balance for the report.
- Even when Navigator updates those fields for that account, other accounts are not updated, even if the other accounts have the same symbol.
