I have just acquired a new computer. I have 8.0 installed and have successfully accessed data from my year 2001 backup disks from the old computer using the A drive. I also want to have my year 2000 files on the new computer. When I used the same procedure as I had with the 2001 files the screen comes up with the following message: "Put data disk in drive using file FNW80EN.ENT". I have no idea what this means and why I cannot simply put my year 2000 data disk in the A drive and access it in the same manner as I did for the year 2001 files for each of the entities I have. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks.

Copy your data files from the A: drive to a folder on your hard drive.

Now open them from the hard drive.

Another point that may be the problem.

If you have renamed folders for the last set of data files used, then this may be the problem. If so you may not be able to get into any set of data including the sample data.

Solution: In windows explorer, open the C:\Windows folder. Look for the file FNWIN.INI. Open it with notepad or some text fle editor(wordpad, etc). Search for the line "RecentFile1=X:\xxxx"
Delete this line and the other lines with "RecentFile2="- "RecentFile9="
Save the file and exit notepad.
Now try to open FN.

Did this solve your problem?
Are you running Windows 2000?
Where was "RecentFile1=" pointing to?
