Hello Bill, sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Software Update feature.You can get around this problem by manually downloading the software update through the FN Help Desk webpage. You can download the latest FN 8.1 Software Update by selecting Help | FNI on the Web menu in Financial Navigator. Simply click the “Download latest software update” link to download the Software Update file, run it, and install the update into your FN program folder.
The Software Update reminder is set by default to remind you 90 days after your last update/install. You can change this interval by editing your FNWIN81.INI file in your FN program folder and changing the line: DaysBetween= 90 to something shorter like DaysBetween= 60 for example.
To try to troubleshoot why you are getting a “Run-time error 7” I’d like to gather some more information:
1. Does this error occur consistently, ever after FN and your computer has been re-started?
2. Does it also occur when you select Help | About Financial Navigator | Software Update?
3. What version of FN are you currently using? Does the problem continue to happen after you have manually downloaded and installed the Software Update?
4. What version of Windows are you running? (Win98, WinMe, Win2000, WinXP)
