I have tried to use Software Update through Help and received a message "Run-time error "7": Out of Memory" The computer has plenty of RAM and memory. How can I correct this?
Also, the update reminder is activated and I have never received the reminder.

Hello Bill, sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Software Update feature.

You can get around this problem by manually downloading the software update through the FN Help Desk webpage. You can download the latest FN 8.1 Software Update by selecting Help | FNI on the Web menu in Financial Navigator. Simply click the “Download latest software update” link to download the Software Update file, run it, and install the update into your FN program folder.

The Software Update reminder is set by default to remind you 90 days after your last update/install. You can change this interval by editing your FNWIN81.INI file in your FN program folder and changing the line: DaysBetween= 90 to something shorter like DaysBetween= 60 for example.

To try to troubleshoot why you are getting a “Run-time error 7” I’d like to gather some more information:

1. Does this error occur consistently, ever after FN and your computer has been re-started?

2. Does it also occur when you select Help | About Financial Navigator | Software Update?

3. What version of FN are you currently using? Does the problem continue to happen after you have manually downloaded and installed the Software Update?

4. What version of Windows are you running? (Win98, WinMe, Win2000, WinXP)

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks for yhe response George.

I had tried several times in the past to update the program and always received the error 7 out of memory message.

To answer your questions about these tries: 1) yes, see above. 2)I don't remember whether I went that route 3) Win 8.1 4 Win XP.

I just updated the program manually (I hope) using procedure in your second paragraph. Then I went to Software Update to see if I still received the error 7 message. This time I received "Run-time error "339": Component "Ciftp.ocx not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid"

Hello Bill, thanks for the detailed reply.

The message “Run-time error 339: Component Ciftp.ocs not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid” indicates that one of the key components needed for the Software Update process is missing or corrupt. This is most likely the cause of your initial run-time error 7 problem. The solution is to re-install Financial Navigator so that the corrupted or missing file can be replaced. It is generally a good idea to uninstall FN prior to re-installing it so that corrupted files are also removed. Once you’ve re-installed FN, run Software Update to confirm that it works and download the latest update. Let me know if this solves your problem.
