We are using Report Viewer 8.0. It was working, but now we are unable to get any of the workstations to even load the program from a shortcut or directly from the execute file. We have reinstalled the software on the network and on the workstation. It still does load. Is there a timer? Why does this program not work?

Hello, thank you for posting your question.

There is no timer associated with Report Viewer. Let’s try to isolate this problem further:

1. When you say you are unable to load the program do you mean that nothing happens at all?

2. Does any screen or message appear after trying to run the program from the shortcut or the executable? Mouse icon changes to an hourglass?

3. Does Windows show Report Viewer as running in the Task Manager?

4. Have you had your network administrator try to restart your server?

5. Have you tried to do a full install of Report Viewer on a workstation to see if that works?

6. What version of Windows are the workstations running? (XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98)

7. What kind of a network are you running? (Novell, 2000 Server, etc.)

Let me know what you find out.

George, attached are the answers to questions:
1. It does nothing. When I try to execute from any place, I do not get an hour glass or any sign of movement.
2. Nothing.
3. Does not show up on Task Manager. Looked under application and processes. Did not see fnwin80.exe or fnwin80x.exe.
4. No. They are going to restart tonight.
5. Yes- Reinstalled workstation and network
6. Windows 2000
7. Novell 6.0 on server side, Novell 4.9 on on client side.

Let me know what else we can do. I will let you know the results of the server reboot.
Thanks! Lorie

The server has been reset. And the program will still not launch. Please advise the next step.
Thanks!

Hello Lorie,

1. When you said you looked under the applications running in Task Manager and did not see fnwin80.exe did you mean you did not see fnview80.exe? Report Viewer is fnview80.exe.

2. Do you know what has been done to your server or workstations since the last time that Report Viewer worked?

3. In addition to re-starting the server, have you re-started your workstation? Have you tried running Report Viewer from other workstations? Do other workstations have the same problem?

4. What is the date and size of the fnview80.exe file?

The next step would be to try running Report Viewer directly from you local machine instead of the server. Perform a Full Installation of Report Viewer to the local drive on your computer (typically the C: drive). You can still access FN data on the network when Report Viewer is installed locally.

Let me know what you find out.

Answers:
1. fnview80.exe was what I meant
2. They did an automatic update to the Novel Client on 10/3/03.
3. I have restarted my workstation too. All other workstations do not work either.
4. 1/5/02 1591 KB

I have done a FULL install of report viewer on my computer. It will not load at all. The hour glass flips on for 1/2 a second and disappears.
Dennis has arranged for support in the AM. This is very frustrating! Everything has been reinstalled and nothing will load.
HELP!!
