You apparently have Navigator installed on a server that is mapped to Z:\FN and are running Navigator on a workstation computer on your desk. You need to tell Windows that it can trust the server. Find out the server’s network name and then follow the steps below.Note: you will also get a similar warning message when you install Navigator (or any software) from a file you have downloaded from the web or received in an email. The solution below may not stop those warnings. You should be very careful about installing any software that you receive via the Internet. Make sure it actually came from a reputable publisher.
Changing security settings can compromise your security. The settings below tell your computer to trust any files on your server (intranet). This should be OK if only trusted files are on the server. But if someone puts a malicious file on your server, you won't be warned when you run the file. Consult with an IT expert if you don't understand the risks.
To stop the security warning message:
- Open Internet Explorer to any web page.
- Select Tools | Internet Options. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Select the Security tab.
- Select Local intranet.
- Select Sites. The Local Intranet screen appears.
- Select Automatically detect intranet network. This may be all you need to do. If you continue to get the security warning, proceed with the following steps.
- Select Advanced. Another Local Intranet screen appears with buttons to add or remove websites.
- Enter the UNC name of your server in the Add this website to the zone text box. For instance, enter \\company\ if the network name of the server is “company.” Case does not matter, but the two leading back slashes are required.
- Select Add. The server name appears in the Websites text box. Normally there is nothing else listed in that box.
- Select Close.
- Select OK twice to close the other two screens.
- Open Navigator. If you still get the security warning, proceed with the following steps.
- Open Internet Explorer to any web page.
- Select Tools | Internet Options. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Select the Security tab.
- Select Local intranet.
- Change "Security Level for this zone" to Medium low.
