We have a new employee/User. And we have installed FN 8.2 on a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium in May. She was working with and storing her data files on a flashdrive for a few weeks, and that worked fine.

Then she decided to backup, clicked Yes when it asked her to, and it wouldn't let her name a folder, just went directly to c:/Program Files/FN/ .
Now when she opens FN it goes directly here. However, if she were to try to open the entity/file, she can't b/c doesn't see any files besides the Sample. They're invisible or hidden. And we're unable to delete it either b/c we can't see it.

So we decided to Uninstall FN, and try to delete the entire FN folder. We were able to delete files one by one, but we're unable to delete Grp2.dat file (only 8KB but impossible to delete).

We reinstalled FN 8.2 and it takes us automatically to the same place. (even though under options, unselected most recently used files)

We're fine with not storing data files on C Drive, but we just need to get the current ones off.

Thanks,
Aline

Vista creates virtual files for security reasons but that also is confusing. Here are some options:
  • If the new user is the only user of the laptop, put the data in (My) Documents. Vista will allow it to be there. See Cloning single computer install.
  • Tell Windows to run Navigator in Compatibiltiy Mode. Find fnwin82.exe and set it to run in Compatibiltiy Mode. See Installing and Using StockWeb on Vista. Vista will now start using the data where you expect it.
  • Turn off User Access Control.
Note that any data you already entered will still be hidden. To find it so that you can back it up and move it to your real data folder, change Windows Explorer to Compatibility Mode too.

For more Vista information, see the links in Compatibility Issue with Windows Vista.

Thank you for the effective response. Got it working properly now by using Compatability Mode.
