Navigator 8.2 Help does not run on Windows Vista as shipped by Microsoft. This is because Microsoft has decided that “hlp” WinHelp that Navigator 8.2 and many other programs use doesn’t meet their specifications. The simplest solution is to refer to the printed manuals that come with Navigator. They have the same information as the Help on the computer. If you would still like to have Help on your computer, see the suggestions below.
Navigator add-ons like Advanced Reports and BrokerLink use “chm” HTML help which runs fine on Vista.
Navigator 9.0 Help will run on Vista. However, the current Early Release Version of Navigator 9.0 is using Navigator 8.2 Help which doesn’t run on Vista.
The instructions that follow affect your computer security. Changing registry settings incorrectly could make your computer unusable. Consult with your IT department before proceeding.
To view Navigator 8.2 Help in Vista:You can download and install the Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) which will allow you to run Navigator 8.2 Help. See http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6EBCFAD9-D3F5-4365-8070-334CD175D4BB&displaylang=en.
If you get a macro error, you may need to enable macros. See "How to enable macros on a single computer after you install the WinHlp32.exe download" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607#2.
If you installed Navigator on a server and cannot access Help, you may need to allow intranet access. See "How to unblock .hlp files that are stored on the Intranet on a single computer after you install the WinHlp32.exe download" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607#2.
