When Financial Navigator creates a set of data files, it automatically carves out space sufficient for basic transactions, distributions, accounts, and other financial data. This standard size allows you to get started and is large enough to hold a year’s worth of activity for most entities. The standard file size is designed to use a minimum amount of hard drive space and enable FN to read and write to the data files as quickly as possible. When you begin to approach the standard limits, FN displays a message:Early Warning on File Space Availability It also displays a list of those files that are running out of space. This list may include: - Transactions
- Distributions
- Memos
- Batches
- Accounts
- Payees/Payors
After working with the data files for some time, you may approach the limits of the standard file sizes. The Change Files Sizes utility enables your to increase these limits. To change data file sizes: - Back up the data files you want to change.
- Select Utilities | System Reconfiguration | Change File Sizes. The Change File Sizes screen appears.
- Move to the text box in the Allocated Number column for the type of file you want to change.
- Type in the new file size.Note: Refrain from changing the allocated size of a data file to its maximum immediately. Instead, increase the file sizes in small increments. This will preserve space on your hard drive and enable FN to run more quickly.
- Repeat for any other file types that you want to change.
- Select OK. FN asks:"Are your data files backed up?"
- Select Yes to continue. FN changes the entry value(s) you typed into the Allocated Number text box(es) and displays another message:
Change File Sizes was completed with changes! - Select OK to return to the FN desktop.
