I am to get a new computer. I work with 10 entities. Can you suggest specs I should request to take advantage of FinNav now and anticipated future software upgrades for FinNav?

Thanks.

In general any of the new computers being sold today will be able to run FN.

Basically you need cdrom, internet access so you will want a network connection, disk space to store FN programs and data files. The amount of memory and speed of processor depends on how productive you want to be. The minimum requirements for FN are the same as the minimum requirements to run windows. FN will work with the sample data in that environment.

To be productive, you will normally be running several programs at the same time such as FN, windows explorer, Internet explorer, email program, word processor, etc. This requires more memory depending on the number of programs and the programs running. When windows runs out of physical memory then it swaps the need memory to the hard disk. This swapping slows down the computer even with a fast processor. For example if you preview an FN report that is several hundred pages, then depending on the amount of physical memory and other programs running then windows may have to swap some to disk.

Therefore, the more memory and faster processor the better. More memory is the easiest and cheapest way to improve performance.

General rule is get a new computer every 2 years and double everything, memory, hard disk space and processor speed. If it is 3 years then triple it. If you were having problems in the past then increase it more.

Look in Windows Explorer under Help | About to see the amount of physcial memory in the computer.

Hope this is helpful.
