The ability to search for information using keywords is one of the most powerful features of the Financial Navigator Help System. You can search the FN Help File using two methods:1. Index – Search the Help File’s index to find a keyword that matches a topic.
2. Search – Search through the entire Help File to find all topics that contain your keyword.
The Index Method:
Once you have opened the help file, you can select the Index tab to enter a keyword to find a matching help topic. As you type, the Help System scrolls through its keywords, searching for a match. (You also can scroll manually through the keyword list to search for account qualifiers.)
The Search Method:
You also can use the Help File’s Search tab to look for keyword matches. The first time you use Find, the system makes a list of every version of every word used in online Help. This provides you with the maximum possible number of keywords to search.
To search for information using the Search tab:
1. Select Help | Search for Help on. The search screen appears with the Index tab on top.
2. Select the Search tab. The Find Setup Wizard screen appears.
3. Select Next and then select Finish to accept the defaults and create the master word list. The Search tab displays:
A text box where you can enter keywords
A list box of all the words in online Help
A list box of the online Help topic(s) associated with whichever word is highlighted in the word list
4. Type a keyword in the text box.
5. Scroll to and select related topics from the topic list box at the bottom of the screen.Search Techniques
A number of techniques can make your Help searches faster and more productive:
As in FN itself, pressing the first letter of a keyword takes you directly to the first keyword beginning with that letter in online Help’s list.
Often you need only type the first few letters of a keyword for online Help to find a match.
Because online Help displays its keywords in alphabetical order, typing the singular of a keyword rather than the plural (account qualifier rather than account qualifiers) often presents you with a larger selection of Help keywords from which to choose.Note: It does not matter whether you type keywords in upper or lower case; online Help is not case-sensitive.
