I would like the ability for a single account to have more than one qualifier. For example, maybe I want to use a qualifier of MSDW for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter so that I can run a report that lists everything managed by MSDW. Then, maybe I want to run a report that shows everything managed by MSDW for myself (For example...General Electric/MSDW/Self) Then, maybe I want to run antoher report that shows everything managed by MSDW for spouse (First Third/MSDW/Spouse) ------------------ ahgatto

What you are describing is already available in the program. The account qualifier is only limited by the number of characters and your imagination. Please refer to the topic Using Qualifiers for Multiple Purposes in the Chart of Accounts Forum for details. ------------------ Renée Trudeau Financial Navigator Int'l Manager, Technical Services

Yes, I see how I could get the above example to work. My example was poor in explaining what I really want...What if I want to run a report, that shows everything for spouse only. And, he/she may have multiple brokerage accounts (which I also want to be able to run separate reports on) but I also want to run a report that shows all of spouses' items only. I will use the -S to designate that it belongs to spouse preceeded by the brokerage account that it is in. So, I might have assets like Third First/MSDW-S, General Electric/MSDW-S; Microsoft/SSB-S; Station Casinos/SSB-S; Motel 6/WFB-S; Disney/WFB-S. So, all of these are owned by spouse and I want them all to print on one report. Is this currently possible? I know I could run a report that shows only MSDW-S, but what about getting it included on a report for all of spouses' holdings?------------------ ahgatto

Yes, you can get a report, using your example, by searching for just the "-S" accounts. You select a report using a part of the account qualifier with a wildcard character: Selecting Accounts Using Wildcard Characters You can use one of three wildcard characters to modify the account qualifier you activate. The account qualifier wildcard characters -the question mark ( ? ), the asterisk ( * ), and the number sign ( #) - are entered in the Account Qualifier screen. Wildcard characters cannot be used in combination with each other. The wildcard characters have the following effects:
- Asterisk ( * ) - Selects accounts with account qualifiers having any number of characters. Type a single asterisk before or after a set of characters. For example, the following account qualifier selects all accounts with a qualifier beginning with a B:
/B*
- Question Mark ( ? ) -Selects accounts with account qualifiers having any single character in the position marked with a question mark. Type a question mark in any position in the account qualifier. For example, the following account qualifier selects all accounts with a three-character qualifier beginning with a B:
/B??
- Number Sign (#) - Selects accounts with account qualifiers having any single digit (0-9) in the position of the number sign, but excludes all letters. For example, the following account qualifier selects all accounts with a three-character qualifier beginning with a B followed by two digits:
/B##
Therefore in your example, I would use the qualifier *-S to run a report only showing the spouse's holdings. Again, you must be consistent with your qualifiers. And you should put the -S qualifier on ANY account relating to the spouse (i.e. checking account, payroll, receivables, credit cards, etc.)
