I am currently using release 7.5. When trying to back up a file, I have received the following message: path/file access error (error #75), check file name. File is read-only - change file attributes, The backup of PAY2.DAT was not successful. I consistantly back up my data files, I have never received this message.

What could be different from the last time you backed up?Try to isolate the problem. 1) Try a different diskette. 2) Try backing up a different folder on the hard drive. 3) Try to back up a different set of data files. 4) Try to copy the data files in the windows explorer. Pay2.dat file is one of the last files to backup. Verify if the other files are being backed up.

Certain versions of anti-virus programs can cause this error message when backing up. If you get an Error #75 message and have anti-virus software running,
- Temporarily disable the anti-virus software
- Re-run your backup
- Once the backup is sucessful, re-enable the anti-virus software

I have been using the same program and G/L for the last four years. I have never gotten any error messages before these that I am getting now. Please help. I am afraid I am going to have to give up and just start my 2002 year in Quickbooks. I can't afford for this thing to crash on me. I do input alot of information in daily. HELP!!!!!

Are there other programs running such as a 2nd copy of FN?Are the data files on the local C: drive or are they being shared on a network with other computers. If so are other computers accessing this same files? The error #75 occurs when Windows indicates the file is read only such as write protected or file is use by another application. What version of FN are you using? Make sure you are using the latest version of FN 8.0 if you are running under Windows 2000 or XP.

I am not running a second copy of FN. I am not on a network. My machine is stand alone. No one uses it but me. I have Version 7.5 I believe. We tried loading Version 8 but it has less capabilities such as a much lower number of accounts allowed, etc. Therefore, after talking to Juan at FN we sent it back and got our money back because it wouldn't benifit me in any way to change. I am not on Windows XP. I have Windows 98. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the version 8.0 is still in my computer somewhere and running interference. Because, I don't think I started getting this error until after we had tried loading the version 8. Any thoughts?

Did you uninstall Version 8.0? This needs to be done:- Select Start | Settings | Control Panel from your Windows menu
- Select Add/Remove Programs
- Select the Financial Navigator 8.0 program from the list.
- Select the Add/Remove command button.
Reply to this post if this does not resolve your problem.

Pamela -I unistalled like you told me to. I still keep getting the error from time to time. Today it keeps doing it while I am entering transactions. It does it whether I am selecting a GL account that already exists or I am creating a new GL account. I am just flabergasted. Michelle

Try reinstalling FN 7.5. And then immediately do a software update. Then see if it occurs again. Make sure you keep your entity file.
