I am having a lot of problems with the program. I am running FN 8.0.6. Problems occur accross entities/data files. Here are a few of my problems:

1. When in the process of customizing a report header or footer the program will freeze. So, I have to shut down the program.

2. Sometimes program will not let me input full date. I can input 02/27/0 , but eventhough the curser is on the last spot it will not accept the last digit.

3. Entries show up in different months/accounts than what/where I posted them. For example, I post an entry in January and January is reconciled. Later on I may open that same set up data files and the entry appears in another month such that January no longer reconciles.

Here is what I have tried. I ran a full scan disk to check for surface errors. No errors were detected. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled FN followed by a defrag.

Run Test And Correct Utility:
1. First back up your data files.
2. Select Utilities | Test & Correct Files | All of the Above.
3. As the system runs through the tests, make note of any corrections the system makes.

Your questions:
1. Make sure you are not running multiple other applications at the same time that you are running the FN program. Sometimes that ties up your system's capabilities and causes programs to freeze.

2. Expand the Date column (click right hand edge of column and drag until full date is shown). Also, you do not need to enter the "/", the system does that for you.

3. Please get the most current software update. See Software Update from FNfor instructions.
If this is just a January issue, this problem has been corrected in the most recent software update.

I have run the test and correct file utility many times and it finds no errors. Since my post I have updated to 8.0.7 and the problem persists. Problem happens even if I have no other programs open. Other facts which I hope help...

I have noticed that when I start my computer my system resources are at 80%+. After opening FN and working in it for even a little while resources drop as low as 12%. I do not have this resource program with any other programs that I know of. Just now I made changes in a FN file and went to print the report. It would not me print as I got the following error message...

Error: 35613 Imagelist must be initialized before it can be used.

I think this error is a resource problem but I do not know why FN is "eating" all the resources.

The problem you are describing sounds like it is caused by not having enough computer "horsepower." Verify how much physical memory is in the computer. 16 megs of RAM are required to run Financial Navigator, and 32 megs are preferred.

Another possibility is a nearly full hard disk. When the hard disk is full, reports cannot spool properly and system resources get used up unnecessarily. Check the hard disk to see if it is nearly full.

Hard drive is not a problem. Of the 9.54 GB capacity, I have 7.34 GB free.

Windows shows 392,348 megabites available.

Financial Navigator shows system memory of 586K and 181,776 free.

What else could it be?

Which report were you running when the system gave you the error?

We need to trace your steps and see if we can locate the problem. Please do the following:

  1. Reboot your computer
  2. Close all applications
  3. Only open FN
  4. Select Help | About Financial Navigator - What is the memory?
  5. Run one of your reports - What is the memory?
  6. Run other reports - What is the memory?
  7. Exit FN
  8. Open FN again - What is the memory?

Reports can take up quite a bit of memory.
But to have your hard disk and memory capabilities indicates that there might be some other applications running.

What do you have running in your system tray? That is the section down at the bottom right of your screen where the time is usually displayed. Are you running big applications on start up? i.e. Webshots? or a Virus Scanner? Gator? Media Player? Instant Messenger?

I am trying to locate any possible application that might be running at the same time.
