Topic: Gain & Loss report out of balance

I'm trying this again...My gain & Loss report for March is wrong. My "subtotal" for common stock on pg 4 is correct, but at the summary by type (pg 7)it is different? Why pg 4 is correct. Why I found out Why.. I sold a partial sec on Apr 3, it is appearing on my March report. I have made sure everything is entered correctly. I have deleted 4/3 transaction, re-entered and still it showing on my March report. Now the same thing is happening on my April report. A transaction is appearing on my April report that I have made in May. Why? How do I solve this problem? I love FN- I just hate the quirks which I seem to have them all.

What version of FN are you using?
Select Help | About Financial Navigator. On the second line should be the version you are using 8.0.X?Run a Test and Correct Utilities. What date are you using in transactions activity? Does the trade date in the Multiple Distribution screen differ? The report runs off of the trade date (date sold on the multiple distribution screen). That way if you sold on 3/27 but it didn't "settle" until 4/3 (when you posted it), it would be on the March statement due to the actual trade date.

Hi Pamela,
I have version 8.0.7. I have run a test & correct file numberous times. The transaction date 4/3 is correctly entered in the multiple distribution screen. Its trade date is April 3,and is entered in April transactions. The options on the report section are all correctly marked.I have run a scan disk. I have tried deleting & re-entering,did not work. Have any other suggestions? Would you like for me to fax you what exactly I'm talking about? It is also carrying forward to April report, also April report is now wrong because a Mays transaction is appearing on it, plus March mess up.
I also can not use my calucator error 53, which I saw other people have problems with.(no big deal)

Error 53 means one or more program files are missing.Reinstall FN 8.0 and then immediately do a software update. That will resolve the error 53 problem. When you sell a security in April and then go back to a March report, that sold security in April will have a different format type in the March report than it did prior to being sold. Once sold, the format type changes from common stock to sold asset- security. That will change the values in the totals rows. [This message has been edited by Pamela (edited 05-22-2002).]

Hi Pamela,
My April transactions should NOT appear on my
March work, even if it was sold. It has NEVER
happened before. I have ALWAYS entered stuff in the next month and then went back to the prior month and it was always correct.If I had 5000 shares in March and sold 2500 in April the March report ALWAYS showed 5000, not the way it is showing now, partial sold.
What you are telling is that I can NOT enter any "next months" work until I have printed out all the "prior months" reports, or the prior months work will appear on those reports, correct? What good does this do me?
I have had FN for years now and I have always entered work into the next month,then went back into the prior month and NEVER had a problem. By the way I have already tried deleting the my April work and re-entered it.
If I printed out my March report after deleting my April work, of course it would not show. It still showed after I deleted and
re-entered. It has also happened to my Feb work. I faxed over the pages. Try to come up with something different.
Sorry for the problems...

I have not heard a word about my problem. Has there been any inquires into it? Did you find a solution? I'm about to enter May's prices, I hope June's works does not show on it. I did not have that much for June. Please let me know something. Thanks
