When in FN, under HELP, I select FNI URL, FN comes back and says it can't find my browser (IEXPLORER.EXE, in the standard Windows Program Files location). I direct FN to this file and it goes to the web site. But, when I select the FNI URL again, FN still can't find my browser, and I have to direct FN to my browser again. This did not happen under my previous Win98 with FN8.07.------------------

The file type .htm is not defaulted to the browser. In Windows Explorer, open in the FN program folder such as c:\fn. Select the file finnav.htm and double click on it to open. If the file type .htm is not default to the browser then windows will ask you what program to use. Browse and select the browser such as Iexplorer.exe. If this does not solve the problem please let us know.

Tried it and it does not solve the problem. However, I can get to the FNI site from within FN if I am logged on as an Administrator. It is becoming obvious that I need to do a considerable amount of research, learning and configuring with my Win XP Prof permissions. (My friend on Windows 2000 does not have these type problems, so it would appear that Win XP Prof is much tighter.)------------------

Using "user" in Windows explorer, double click on the finnav.htm file in the Fn program folder such as c:\fn\finnav.htm. Does it open the browser? If not, does the browser work to access any htm file on the web for "user"?Also try running webdial.exe. Create shortcut with the following properties. Target: C:\FN\webdial.exe >http://www.finnav.com Start in: C:\FN where 'C:\FN' is the FN program folder. This runs webdial which is the program used in FN to invoke the browser and direct it to the FN web site. Yes, XP has more security. This is both a good and a bad thing. It does not allow people access to do the things that they should not be allowed to do. As with any increased functionality, setting the options to allow just what it wanted and nothing more requires more work.

Yes, I tried the following:1) The shortcut with webdial.exe >http://www.finnav.com as target, and c:\Program Files\FN as start in, was put onto my "User" desktop and run successfully. 2) The same shortcut was then put into the c:\Program Files\FN folder (by the Admin since it wouldn't let the User put a shortcut there). It ran OK for the Admin, but would not for the User. 3) It seems that my permissions simply do not let the User run certain things under Program Files? Yet, it should. 4) I do not have the IE Firewall running, nor do I have my Norton Firewall up yet. My permissions are strictly vanilla, coming about from the Network Share Wizard with simple file sharing on. I have downloaded a paper from the MS Technet on sharing in Win XP Prof and am studying it. So far, it confirms my understanding that normal Internet access is OK for the User. I think I have some obscure something set wrong in my system. On the other hand, having been a Windows user for many years, I would not be surprised if I have stumbled on a windows bug. ------------------
