A variety of computer hardware and/or data entry problems may cause your FN data files to become corrupted. This can occur, for example, if the power goes out while you are using the program or if there are damaged areas on your hard drive or if you had some data entry problems. The Test & Correct Files utilities are designed to fix these sorts of problems. To do this:
- First back up your data files.
- Select Utilities | Test & Correct Files | All of the Above.
- As the system runs through the tests, make note of any corrections the system makes.
If your problem relates to a particular account, look at the account in question. If you're still having problems after running Test & Correct, do the following:
- Go to Report Selection
- Select the Transactions by Account report for the problem account. Be sure to select the month with the problem if applicable.
- Determine whether there are any transactions posted from another journal. If test & correct says the balances are fine, then the activity must be from another account(journal).
- Delete the incorrect transaction and re-enter in the proper journal.
If you're still having problems, please post an entry to the proper category in the User Forums and we will assist you further.
One further note:
Test & Correct Files is an important part of system maintenance. Make it a point to run this utility at least monthly on all your data files, "just in case."
