I recently installed my personal edition FN 8.0 on my new computer running Windows XP. Everytime I try to view a report on screen or print I get the error message "Run Time Error 50003 "unexpected error"". I can print checks however. In accordance with past postings, I uninstalled FN. Reinstalled it. Updated the software to 8.0.8 using the Website. The machine has been rebooted. I still have the same error message.
I recall having this problem some time ago, perhaps in conjunction with the beta versions of 8.0. The problem at that time was that one of the .dll files have been replaced by a more current version that caused the problem, and that the older version needed to be reinstalled.

As you've read in previous posts, this problem is usually solved by performing a windows uninstall of Financial Navigator and re-installing the program from your CD.

Try uninstalling FN in XP, and if your FN program folder still exists verify that it no longer contains any windows library files (.dll) or OCX files (.ocx). If these files still exist, then they need to be removed prior to re-installing FN. You may also try installing FN into a different folder than the one you've previously used.

Your problem may also be print driver related. Make sure you have installed the latest WindowsXP print driver from your printer's manufacturer.

If the above hasn't solved your problem, please answer the following:

1. Does this problem happen with another printer, or just this particular printer?

2. Can you display reports on your screen when pressing the "Screen" button in Report Selection?

3. Does the problem only occur when trying to Print or Print Preview?

I have performed the steps outlined in my post of 1-7 and as laid out in your 1-8 reply.

Perform a Windows uninstal.
Manually deleted any remaining .dll and .ocx files.
Reinstalled 8.0
Updated to version 8.0.8

The error message continues to appear when selecting either Screen or Print buttons. In addition when clicking the error message OK it closes FN.
I have installed the latest print drivers required for use with XP. You will note that in my 1-7 post I am able to print checks.

1. I connected another printer to the computer and experienced the same result.
2. As noted above pressing the "Screen" button produces the same error message.
3. I have not encountered this error message in any other functions although in addition to starting a new year, I have only entered a few transactions and printed a few checks.

Try to completely un-install Financial Navigator in WindowsXP. Re-start XP, then install FN to a different folder like c:\fn2 for example. Since under WindowsXP FN’s library files are installed in the FN program folder, it will ensure that you are running FN will the original files from your installation CD.

You may also be experiencing a conflict with your printer driver. Try uninstalling your printer in WindowsXP, re-start XP, and see if you still get Run Time Error 50003 when trying to run a report in Financial Navigator. Please note that you will have to re-install your printer driver in order to use your printer after trying this step. Only un-install your printer driver if you are confident that you can re-install your printer driver afterwards.

If the above two suggestions don’t get you past this error 50003, search your entire computer for the following two files:

Vsflex7L.ocx
Vsview6.ocx

Please report back all of the locations that these files are found on your computer.

In additon:

1. Can you print from other applications such as Microsoft Word?

2. Can you use another application's “Print Preview” option?

3. Was the different printer you connected to your computer the same make and model as your other printer?

4. What font are you using for your reports? To check your report’s body font, click on Reports | Report Setup and select the Header tab. What are your Header and Body fonts? Can you print these fonts from other applications?

Followed instructions as above:
FN uninstalled by Windows XP. However, in that process I experimented with manual vs automatic uninstall. In the manual mode a screen explained that the FN installation, installed the following files in Windows\System32\
Stdole2.tbl, Oleaut32.dll, & Olepro32,dll and that I might not want to uninstall them. I did not as these appear to be Windows system files. I choose automatic mode instead.
I reinstalled FN into a new directory fn2.
I tested the screen and print commands in the original 8.0 installation. Everything works as intended. I downloaded 8.0.8 and again tested. Everything works as intended.

I thought I would respond to the other questions in the event this problem reoccurs for another user.

I would not attempt to uninstall the print driver as I had to go the the HP Website to download and install.

I verified the location of the two files. They were only present in fn2.

1. I was always able to print from all other applications including Word and as noted print checks from FN.
2. The Print/Preview tools were always usable in other applications.
3. They were different printers. The originally connected printer is aN HP 1100 and the other HP1200.
4. The fonts are the FN default fonts. They are usable in all other applications.

Thanks for the asistance. I am a 14 year FN user; my first installation was on an IBM AT. This was a particularly frustrating experience although as other already know, XP is clearly not the magical solution Microsoft wants us to believe.
