Hello, sorry to hear you are having trouble updating your security values and budgets.I’d like to gather some more information about your problem. Where and when does this error occur exactly? 1. Can you display the Budgets for Accounts or Enter Prices to Update Securities screen at all? If you can, then: 1a. Does it occur on the Budgets for Accounts screen immediately after you enter a new budget amount or after you click “OK”? 1b. Does it occur on the Enter Prices to Update Securities screen immediately after you enter a new price or after you click “OK”? 2. Are these the only two screens that you are experiencing this error? What about other areas of the program like Tax Code Changes, Change/Delete Account Name, Asset & Liability Info? 3. While running FN, have you tried pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager to look at the Performance tab to see your memory usage? Let us know what you find out. --------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

Thanks for the detailed reply John. This is good troubleshooting. Let’s continue to isolate the problem even further: 1. Does the error occur with the Sample data? Open the Sample data that is typically installed as “Sample” in the FN program folder and see if the error occurs there as well. This will help determine if the error is data related. 2. Have you installed any other programs since installing FN 8.1? 3. Did you uninstall your old 7.5 version after installing FN 8.1? 4. Have you tried re-installing FN 8.1? If not, re-install FN into the same folder it is currently installed in. See if the error continues to occur. Let me know what you find out. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

Hello John, thank for the detailed response. The problem does not seem to be data related. It is likely caused by a program file or conflicting Windows library file. Since you re-installed FN and the error continues to occur it is likely the problematic file is not being replaced. Therefore, take a look at the fnwin81.log file in your FN program folder. You can open it with Notepad to see which file(s) do NOT get replaced during installation. You can also try to: (1) uninstall FN and (2) re-install the program to a different folder on your computer, C:\FN2 for example. This will help to ensure that the files in your new FN program folder are all new. See if the error continues to occur after installing FN to a new folder. Let me know what you find out. --------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

George:The uninstall/reinstall to a different folder did the trick. While I have not tried all the possible functions, I am now able to enter security updates and asset/liability information. Thanks for the help. John
