All of a sudden, I have a $900+ difference between the account balances at the end of a month and the account balance shown on the transaction entry page (also affecting reconciliation). The transaction entry balance is correct. I've tried looking at transfer clearing accounts, tested all files, did trial balances. Can't find anything that looks awry. The account balances page is greyed out so I can't force a change. How can this happen and what should I do about it. Thanks, Bill May

Hello Bill, thanks for posting your question. It is good that you’ve run the Test & Correct Files utility. Did you specifically run the Balances for Accounts test & correct utility? The test will not run unless you select Yes to the prompt “Are your data files backed up?”. Where do you see a difference between your account balances? On the Transaction Activity screen, are you looking at the running balance or the month balance (at the bottom of the screen)? What are you comparing this balance to: balances on reports, Balances for Accounts screen, or the balance on the Chart of Accounts screen? Let me know what you find out. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

Re testing files, I did as directed including having files saved. Couldn't find any descrepancy. Also looked at trial balances. On the transaction entry balance at end of September, the amount matches the amount at the beginning of October. And it matches the statement from the bank. I did a reconcile and I was off by the $900+. So I went to account balances and the amount at the end of September is off by the same $900 from the transaction entry balance at the end of September. Thanks, Bill

Hello Bill,Verify the format type of the account. Look at the Asset & Liability screen for the account and make sure the format type is correct. Also, run a Transactions by Account report for the account for Aug – Sep or Jan - Dec. If there was a transaction that took place affecting this account it would show up on this report. You can also manually change the balance of the account on the Account Balances screen if you would like. Currently your Account Balances fields are grayed out so you will have to turn on the option to allow changes to account balances: 1. Select the Investments menu. 2. Select Investment & Account options. 3. Check the box marked Allow changes to: Balances for Accounts. -------------------------------------------- George Financial Navigator Int’l

Thanks. Somehow in the sale of an investment, the broker account got placed in the MD instead of the security. This must have changed the Format because I had trouble doing transfers after that. I changed the format back but was not able to find the other error. This clear it up. Thanks so much. Bill
