Thanks for your question. The first thing you should try is reinstalling FN. If you are running FN on a network, reinstall FN on the server and see if that fixes the problem. If you still can’t start FN, you need to investigate further.
Let’s try to isolate the problem.
If you start FN from an icon on the desktop, that icon links to a location where the program exists and the program loads fnwin.ini settings from the workstation and loads data files. Be aware that you may have the FN program installed in multiple locations. To see if the problem is related to the icon:
- Try starting FN without using the icon. Select Start | Programs | Financial Navigator. If this works then the problem must be in the desktop icon. Look at the properties of the icon.
- Try starting FN from Windows explorer. This way you know what folder the program is being run from.
- Are you running the FN program from a network drive? If so, then try starting FN from another workstation. If that workstation works then the program.exe (on the network drive) is ok.
Since we have not seen this error before, can you give us any more clues about the problem?
- You have FN version 8.1. But is it FN 8.1.4 or 8.1.5? When did you do a Software Update?
- You reinstalled FN a month ago without problems. Did anything change just before the problem occurred?
- Are you running FN locally or over network?
- What version of Windows are you running?
- What is your "normal" video setting? The recommended setting for FN is 1024 x 768.
- Does this happen on only one computer or others? What is the difference between this machine and others?
- What have you tried so far, besides changing the video settings? Restarting the workstation? Restarting the server? Reinstalling FN? Roll-back to old video driver?
