When trying to open a client file from the year 2003 our user is getting an Error #75.We have checked the rights for the directory that contains FN on our network share and have confirmed that the user has demi-god rights (Modify). The user is able to open the files for other clients contained in the directory hierarchy. Any ideas as to what we have done to bullocks things up? Thank you, Mike

You are on the right track. Error #75 means Windows doesn’t have write access to the file(s). You already checked permissions. Now find out if the files are read only:- Open the problem data folder.
- Right click on each file and select Properties
- Clear the Read Only box if it is checked.
- Try opening the data in FN again.
If that doesn’t work, try:
- Reboot the computer
- Copy the problem folder to a diskette and then back to the hard drive.

Client files are stored in a folder, with a separate folder for each entity and each year. FN opens the files in a folder so you can work on the data. One or more of the files in the entity/year folder you can't open may have a problem.Error #75 may indicate that a file is currently "in use" by another FN user. Or it could still be marked in use in error if the FN user's work station crashed when a file was being used, and as a result, the file was never properly closed. Here are a few other suggestions if the ideas in the previous post don't clear the error #75: - Copy the folder that won't open from your regular FN data folder to another folder on a local
hard drive instead of a floppy. Copying to a floppy can be problematic if the floppy disk or drive is not good. Hard drives are more reliable. Copying the folder may solve the "in use" problem, since the copy won't be in use. - If you are on a network and the client file folder is stored on a server,
another possible solution is to reboot the server. This will change the status of any files that were mistakenly marked as "in use" to "available." - Copy a backup copy of the folder in question from a good backup
to your hard drive, but somewhere other than your regular FN data folder, perhaps C:/temp/. Open the new folder with FN and review the data. If everything looks good, rename the old problem folder something like "Jones2004BAD." Then move the new backup folder to the regular FN data folder. - Try to access the files from another workstation. If it works from one
workstation but not another, then the problem is not with the folder but with the workstation, and you may need to try some different solutions than what is covered here.
Please reply to this post so other users will know what worked for you. Your feedback helps all the Forum members. Thanks, and good luck! [This message has been edited by David (edited 03-19-2004).]
