Financial Navigator stopped working. When I try to enter transactions, run a report, anything – I get an error message something like “Error 339. Component DWSHK32.ocx missing or not correctly registered.” There’s a Forum post Error 339 Component ss32X25.ocx missing or invalid that suggests reinstalling FN. I did that, and everything’s fine for a few days. Then I get the same error again! How do I fix this permanently?

We have been getting a few reports like this. It appears that DWSHK32.ocx may be considered spyware by some spyware or adware removal programs. But DWSHK32.ocx has been used in many software products for many years and should not be removed.AOL AntiSpyware is one program that will remove DWSHK32.ocx and prevent FN from running. If you are an AOL subscriber, this program may be running automatically once a week. You can check the AOL AntiSpyware log to see if it found DWSHK32.ocx. If it did, you can change the settings so the DWSHK32.ocx is reinstated and will not be removed in the future. If FN still does not run after telling AOL to allow DWSHK32.ocx, reinstall FN. We would be interested to know if any other spyware or adware removal programs are causing problems with FN. - David FNI Support Desk [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 09-09-2004).]

We have also had reports of AOL AntiSpyware also finding the file DWspy32.dll as spyware and disabling it. Reinstating this file will remove the error message and allow FN to function. The files DWspy32.dll and DWSHK32.ocx are legitmate developer tools developed by Desaware. These files are essential to FN and help us provide some of its more advanced features. Although the tool is labled "Spyworks" by AOL, it is in no relation to what is referred to as "Spyware". FN does not and has never contained "Spyware". [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 08-12-2004).]

To stop AOL from interfering with your Financial Navigator programs: After the AOL Spyware Protection Program finishes a scan, if any Spyworks program is listed, simply: - Select the Spyworks program(s).
- Select Allow Item.
- Select Close.
If Financial Navigator won’t run because AOL already disabled it:- Start AOL Spyware Protection Program.
- Select Options | Restore Blocked Items.
- Select Spyworks Keylogger
- Select Allow

AOL has updated their anti-spyware program and it will no longer interfere with FN. Update your AOL anti-spyware program to 3/2/05 or later and you won't have any more problems.- David FNI Support [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 05-12-2006).]
