Some FN users use Zone Alarm as an intrusion alert and firewall. Zone Alarm recently added anti-spyware features. Unfortunately, their spyware detector incorrectly reports that a program file used by FN is spyware.

The file is DWSPY32.dll, which has been used in many software products for many years and should not be removed or quarantine. For more information about DWSPY32.dll, see the Desaware Spyworks program page at http://www.desaware.com/products/universalcom/spyworks/index.aspx. Also read Spyworks is not Spyware at http://www.desaware.com/tech/files/Spyworks%20is%20not%20Spyware-2.pdf.

We are working with Zone Labs to get Zone Alarm to allow this file. Meanwhile, you should instruct Zone Alarm to ignore the warnings about DWSPY32.dll.

AOL's anti-spyware program had a similar issue, but AOL has fixed it and you can now run AOL and FN without any problems. See Error 339. Component DWSHK32.ocx missing or not correctly registered.

Here is additional information how to get Zone Alarm to work properly with FN.

When Zone Alarm detects DWSPY32.dll, it may report the file as "Desaware Spyworks" and recommend that you Quarantine it. In spite of the name, this program is safe and required by FN.

To allow DWSPY32.dll so that you can run FN:

  1. Select the treatment Quarantine next to Desaware Spyworks. A menu appears.
  2. Select Ignore Always.
  3. Select Apply.

When you are using FN, Zone Alarm may notify you "Dangerous Behavior. Financial Navigator is trying to monitor your mouse movements and keyboard strokes." FN is simply responding to your commands, and there is no danger. To avoid getting this warning:
  1. Select Apply this setting to all dangerous behaviors exhibited by this application.
  2. Select Allow.
