After upgrading to 8.2, headers and footers no longer appear on the reports. They are there in report set-up but do not show in print preview either. I have checked the top margin and it is still 1.2. I changed it to 1.3 and it made no difference.

Hello Charlene,Do the headers and footers appear when you run a report to the Screen? (not print preview) Since they do not appear in Print Preview it sounds like you may have a print driver issue. Print Preview and your printed reports are controlled by your printer's Windows driver. Therefore, try installing an updated version of your print driver. You can usually download the latest print drivers from your printer's manufacturer web site. Additionally, I would recommend re-installing FN. If that does not solve your problem, try re-installing FN in a DIFFERENT folder like C:\FN2\ to see if that makes a difference. Installing in a brand new folder can help when it comes to driver issues. Let us know what you find out. Thanks. Sincerely, George Financial Navigator, Inc.

George,Yes, they show up in report to screen, but they look different now. The header has a white background and the report itself has a gray background. The footer doesn't show up at all. Why would I suddenly have a printer driver problem when the only thing that has changed is the upgrade to 8.2? I'll reinstall if you think that will work. Do you want me to uninstall first? Charlene

Charlene,Yes, you can uninstall prior to re-installing. Also, re-installing to a new folder could make a difference. Do you get the same behavior for all reports or just certain reports? Here are some other things to try: If your FN 8.1 has not expired, try running the same reports with that version to see if you experience the same problem. Under Report Setup, select the Margins tab and select the 'Reset to Default' button. Under the Header tab, select the 'Reset to Default' button for both Header Font and Body Font. If those did not help, try even larger margins for the header, 1.4 for example. Sincerely, George Financial Navigator, Inc.

Sorry George,None of those apply. Here is my direct correspondence with Michael Fong. This is a Windows 98 machine. I removed 8.1 during the upgrade as I was instructed. I still have a disc, but....8.1 expired 12/30/05. I have a dot matrix printer hooked up to the same computer and an electronic switch directs the flow of information to either the LaserJet or the Dot Matrix. Everything was working fine in FN before the upgrade last week. I decided to try the dot matrix before doing anything else. So, I printed to screen, went into print setup and changed to the EpsonLQ 850. I then chose Print from the file menu and printed to the Epson. The header & footer were there! So then, I went into print setup again and changed it back to the LaserJet, chose Print from the file menu and printed to the hp. And guess what, the header and footer were there too. But here is the WEIRD part. Repeating the process back to the LQ, they were gone again and the same for the HP. So then, I closed out FN, opened again and repeated the entire process. Same thing again. I asked Michael if he still thinks it's a driver problem in light of these developments.

This seems to be an issue which is unique to situations which involve windows 98, FN 8.2, and HP printers. If you look in at the "printers and faxes" from the win98 control panel, you will probably see several versions of the HP printer installed. They should contain the HP printer name and then either a PS or PCL suffix. There are currently two solutions to this problem: The first recommendation is to: 1). Close all instances of Financial Navigator. 2). Open your printer and faxes settings. This may be located directly in your start menu, or can be accessible via the control panel. 3). Select the HP printer with a "PS", but Right-click with your mouse and select "Properties". 4). Click on the "Fonts" tab and select the option "Always use True Type Fonts". The first option “Send TrueType fonts to printer according to font Substitution Table” is probably selected instead. 5). Click Apply and OK. 6). Open Financial Navigator and let us know if it works. If the above solution does not work, or you do not have a printer with a PS at the end, then follow the same instructions above for a PCL printer, except at step 4, go to the "Finishing" tab and select "Truetypes as Bitmaps" under the Customize Print Quality settings. Either of these solutions should enable FN to print headers and footers to the printer. Regards, Michael Fong FNI Technical Support
