I would like to know if it is possible to print Cost-Basis and SPA reports for previous months without the information reflecting the current month's information. We are trying to go paperless, but are not sure how to accomplish this. When we go back into previous month's reports, the cost-basis numbers are incorrect (it pulls current info). Any suggestions???

It is possible to print prior-month financial statements for any reports not involving cost basis. This includes all Income Statements and all Balance Sheets except the Cost Basis Balance Sheet.

As you point out, when printing reports which include cost basis, the system picks up the current information for cost basis no matter what month is selected. This affects the Cost Basis Balance Sheet and most of the Investments report group.

If this is a problem for you, you should consider posting it to the Recommended FN Program Enhancements Forum. Suggestions posted to this forum are strongly considered when future releases of FN are developed.

In the meantime, here is a possible solution to "going paperless."

Currently you are probably printing each month's Cost Basis Balance Sheet and Securities Portfolio Analysis in order to maintain a month-by-month record of cost basis changes.

Instead of printing the monthly reports to paper, you could save them to disk instead. Do this as follows:

  1. From the Report Selection dialog box, choose the report you want to save.
  2. Select Screen.
  3. From the report screen, select File | Save
  4. Type the name of the report, such as SPA07 for the July Securities Portfolio Analysis.
  5. Select Save

The report is saved exactly as it appeared on screen as a Financial Navigator report file with the extension FAR. This report can be opened at any time and printed if needed.

Note that the FAR report is a FN formatted report and can only be opened by FN.

This is such a great question that it should be seen by as many Forum users as possible.

Accordingly, this entire topic has been copied to both the FN Report Groups: Balance Sheets forum and the FN Report Groups: Investment Reports forum. The topic will still appear in Financial Navigator - General: Financial Navigator System Features forum, but the topic there will permit no new entries.

Further discussion on this topic will take place in the Balance Sheets forum.
