I have been entering dividends in the transaction file. I made an error, and deleted the transaction. When I run the Income statement report it still shows this dividend as a credit amount.
I tried deleting every transaction for june, and when I go to re enter the transactons the June transaction entry screen shows a negative $1000 activity and and a balance that does not agree with the ending balance for May. I tried the test & correct file, and that seemed to screw it up more whether i say yes or no to doing any adjusting.
I ran a report for the transactions for the one dividend account and it shows no transactions in 2001 however on the june income statement it shows the -$1000 amount.

What version of FN are you using?
Help | About Financial Navigator
Second line should show you version 8.0.?
It should be 8.0.4. Do a software update if it is not showing 8.0.4.

When you entered the dividend transactions, did they go through a transfer clearing account? If you only delete one side of a transfer clearing type entry, the other side will still show on a report. Check your Transfer Clearing Account and make sure it is showing a balance of 0. (Reports | Transactions by Account type Transfer Clearing Acctinto Account box and run report.) If the account is not showing a balance of 0, find the entry that is incorrect and go to that journal and delete it.

What messages are you getting on the test and correct? That process should show you where your accounts are out of balance.

Run a detail trial balance for that time period and see which account shows the -$1000 and what journal that entry was made in. Then go to that journal and delete the entry.

hOW DO i UPDATE to 8.04FN
As to my problem witht the incorrect balance. I don not have an acct called transfer clearing account. I did try the clearing acct the transactiion should have gone thru and there is no transaction.
Originally when I ran the test and correct, I had a credit to debit to the bank and a credit to the dividend acct. I started off with just the dividend being wrong. when I made the adjust (click on ok or yes to fix), and it made the bank and the dividend account to be wrong.
I thought deleting all of Junes transactions would let me start over. I stil have May ending balance correct, and June starting balance incorrect!

To retrieve the most recent version of FN:

1. Connect to the Internet as you normally would.
2.Start FN. Open any set of data files.
3.Select Help | Software Update. FN confirms that you want to connect to the FN Software Update site.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen for the remainder of the retrieval and installation.

Regarding dividend issue:

You said you deleted all June transactions. Did you "v" void them or "x" delete them out?

Run a report on the dividend account and see if the transaction is still showing, go to that journal, and delete it.

Are you posting the dividends in a brokerage, money market, checking, or savings account?

Did you run a detail trial balance so that you can see where the other side of the transaction is that is throwing your balance off? That will tell you where you need to go to delete the other side.

After you do that, run a test and correct again for "all of the above" not just the balances account, and let the system fix your accounts.
