There were two stock sale transactions on Feb 13 2008 and they are recorded exactly the same on the transaction screen.

However, only one transaction is seen on the Shedule-D report.

How can I fix it and prevent it from happening again?
Thanks.

Many things can cause a sold stock not to show on Schedule D. See Sold accounts not on Schedule D.

Here’s a detailed look at one possibility: The Date Sold may be incorrect or missing.

The Schedule D report looks at the Date Sold on the Asset & Liability Info screen. Look at the Asset & Liability Info screen for both stocks. If they were indeed sold on 2/13/08, that date should be in Date Sold. I bet it is not in one of them.

What you describe also happens if the report date is before the Date Sold. If one of the stocks has a Date Sold of 3/15/08, it won’t appear on Schedule D for Jan-Feb 2008, only Mar 2008 and later reports.

Check the Multiple Distribution screens for the two transactions where you sold the stocks. The Date Sold can be different than the transaction date. The transaction date is the date the cash appears in your broker cash account and the date on the Transaction Activity screen. On your broker statement it may be called the settlement date. Navigator uses the same date for Date Sold on the Multiple Distribution screen unless you manually change the Date Sold.

If you use BrokerLink to post these sales, it depends on your broker what dates are used. Some brokers supply only the settlement date, some brokers supply only the trade date. If the broker only supplies one date, BrokerLink uses that date for both transaction date and Date Sold, unless you override it on the BrokerLink grid before you post the transaction.

If the broker supplies both dates (which really the way it should be done), BrokerLink uses the settlement date as the transaction date and the trade date as the Date Sold.

Hope this helps. Please reply to this Forum post if you still can’t get both accounts on the report.
