This situation will happen if the data files were removed using a method other than using the Delete function in FN (for example, deleting a data files directory through Windows Explorer). You can delete the entity name by creating a temporary set of data files with that name.To delete an entity that has no data files:
- Select File | List Entities.
- Make a note of the exact name of the entity or select Print to obtain a printout.
- Select File | Open and load the Sample data files (the Sample data files do not count as one of your entities).
- Select File | Save As and save the data files in a directory called Temp.
- Select File | Open and load files from the Temp directory.
- Select File | Change Entity Name. Select OK twice to come to the Change Entity Name screen.
- Enter in the first text box the name of the entity you want to delete exactly as it was shown in the Entity List. Select OK.
- Select File | Open and load another set of data files.
- Select File | Delete and select the directory Temp.
- Select OK twice to remove the data files and the directory. The name is now removed from the entity list.
Please note that this answer is for version 7.5 and above. The steps shown on page 73 of the version 7.0 reference guide do not work for version 7.5 and above.
