We have FN 8.0 and I was trying to get a report that lists of all the file names. We have close to 60 entities...

I was not able to get a file list when opening up files and using the list button on the lower right corner...when I tried to list I would only get a few of the files and then sometimes it will not show all the files...

I like to use this list as reference on the files we have. I know you have a entity list feature but I need to see the file name instead..

So other Forum users know what this is about .... when you select File | Open, a button labelled List appears at the bottom of the File | Open box. The above question pertains to using that feature.

Before you select the "List" button, enter the highest level that you want the list to start from.

For example, current files may be located at C:\fn\Data\sample\2000. Then set the folder name to be C:\Fn\Data and it will seach for all FN data files under C:\Fn\Data instead of just under C:\fn\data\sample\2000

The system will produce a list of all data files appearing at or under the specified folder. From the list you can select Print to print the list of folder names.

File | List Enties will be just a list of the entities names and not all the folder names for all the entities.

Your reply does make it clearer but here we keep each year in its separate folder so I would like to be able to list only the files in the 2000 folder directory.

I still also have the problem of some files not showing up when I make the list. I also had a problem printing the list. If I had lot of files the text printed came out very very small. It was like there was not enough space given to the list to print all files.

With each year in a different folder, you can have either:
  1. All the entities for 2000 in the same folder or

  2. All of the years under each entity.

All entities for 2000 in the same folder (option a) would look like this:

FNDATA

  1. 1999

    • entity1
    • entity2

  2. 2000

    • entity1
    • entity2

All of the years under each entity (option b) would look like this:

FNDATA

  1. entity1

    • 1999
    • 2000

  2. entity2

    • 1999
    • 2000

If the folders are organized as in (a) then set the folder to fndata\2000 and select List. This would get all folder in the year 2000.

However if the folders are organized as in (b) then set the folder to fndata and select list. This will get all folders for all years.

All files should show up. It is scanning for files named "usr2.dat". You can do the same thing in Windows Explorer. Select Tools |Find |Files or folders| Select files named usr2.dat.

The font is fixed for printing the list. Another solution is to create a new printer that prints to a file. Set this printer as the default printer. Now print the list and the text will be written to a file. Now this file can be opened in Notepad, Word, etc.

Currently there is limit of 200 folder names. If this limit is exceeded then an error (9 subscript out of range) occurrs. This is being corrected. Do you have more than 200 folder names in the list?

Our files are kept like a) so when I do set the folder to F: fndata\2000 the list does work.

I meant to mention before that we updated from an older version to the new 8.0 and that the list was not picking up the file names until I went through each file using the new version. I am able to get a list now of the files. I tried printing the file list again today and it seems to work today! so, I think it was just my printer.

Thanks for the help.
