We have an Entity that appears on our list of Entities however it does not appear in our data files. How do we go about finding who set it up, or where its located.

Hi Barb,

Well, you can't actually "trace" an entity and determine who set it up ... there's no "author" like on a Word document.

Here's what I would do in your situation:

  1. Verify what entities are on your entity list. Do this by selecting File | List Entities. Print out this list by selecting Print.(It sounds like you've already done this, but I wanted to put it here to be sure.)

  2. Verify what data files are on your computer. Do this by selecting File | Open | List. Make sure that the "Folders" box is set to your entire hard drive. Print out this list by selecting Print. This function is discussed in detail at the topic List of Entities. This is a great tool that will tell you the location of all your Financial Navigator data files for the drive or folder you select.

  3. Compare the two lists. Anything that's on the Entities list (#1) but not on the Files list (#2) means that you need to delete the entity, which is discussed below. Anything that's on the Files list but not the entity list means that you have some old dead files on your computer that you aren't using.

If you determine that you have data files on your computer and they're on your entity list and you don't need them at all, select File | Delete. FN will ask you to select the files you wish to delete. The files you select will be removed entirely from your computer and removed fromt the entity list as well -- so be sure to back them up to a floppy if there's any chance you might need them in the future.

If you determine that you have an item on the entity list but there are no related files, then you need to follow the procedures detailed at the topic Deleting Entities.
