You just need to copy the data to a floppy diskette and then copy the data from the floppy to the new computer. If you copy all of your data files as described below, everything will be copied, including accounts, transactions, payees, and so on.There are several ways to do this. Since you only have one set of data, here's the easiest way. - Start up FN on the old computer.
- Use File | Backup to copy your files to a floppy. It sounds like you've already done these first two steps, but I put these steps here for the benefit of anyone else who may be starting this process from scratch.
- Start up the new computer.
- Insert the backup floppy in the new computer's floppy disk drive.
- Start up FN the new computer.
- The FN desktop appears, with the Open screen displayed.
- Type the following in the Enter drive and folder for data field:
a:\ - Select OK. The system asks: "Use data files on a:\?" Select Yes.
- Select File | Save As.
NOTE: Make sure you select the Save As command. Other commands from the File menu will not have the desired result. - In the Enter drive or folder for data field, type the following:
c:\xxx where xxx is the path to your data on the new computer. For example, if my name was Jones, I'd use c:\fn\jones.01. Feel free to use another path as long as you'll remember what it is. - The system asks "Save data files on a:\ to c:\xxx?" If this is correct, select Yes.
- Wait a few moments while the data is copied from the floppy drive to the hard drive on the new computer. The system responds, "The data files have been saved to c:\xxx and are now open and ready to use." Select OK.
- Remove the floppy disk and put it in a safe place.
