I changed an entity name for the year 2002. However, when I went into the 2001 data files, the program prompted me to add the old entity name. I need to change the entity name on those data files as well. What do I do?

When you change an entity name, the old entity name is removed from the system. Therefore, if you access other data files with the old entity name, the system prompts you to add the entity back in to your entity list. When you try to open an entity that has the old entity name, select OK to add the old entity name back on your entity list so that you can access the data files. Once you have added the old entity name back, you can change the name of those data files to the new entity name if required. This will then remove the old entity name again, thereby not using up an additional entity. You will have to repeat this process for each set of data files you need to change the entity name for. If you keep the old entity name for use with data files that you do not need to change the entity name for, then the new entity name will use one of your licensed entities.

We need to retrieve data from entities from previous years that have subsequently changed their names (divorce/remarriage). The problem is, we are currently at our maximum number of allowed entities, so we cannot even access the old data since the old name is not recognized and cannot be added as a new entity. Any ideas?

You don’t want to change the name of the old entity as discussed above. In order to access the old entity, you need to add more entities to your FN software. You can now buy entities in blocks of five. Please contact our Sales department for more information at 1-800-468-3636 x 2000. Once you have an extra entity, it's really simple to open the old entity, add it to your entity list, and work with the data. It's a good idea to have extra entities available in case of situations like these.
