I want FN to start with the Open screen so I can select which entity to work with. I should be able to set this up by changing the Target of my desktop shortcut. But when I put the path to my FN data in the Target, the Open screen shows the wrong directory:

Target: "C:\Program Files\FN\fnwin82.exe" c:\Program Files\FN\

Result: Open screen Enter drive and folder for data shows C:\PROGRAM FILES\FN\ (as it should), but Folders window has Program Files highlighted. I have to scroll down and manually select the FN folder to get to my data.

How can I get the Open screen to take me directly to c:\Program Files\FN\?

Notes:

If I put c:\Program Files\FN\Sample in Target, the Sample data opens OK.

If I put c:\Program Files\ in Target, the Open has Program Files highlighted, as expected.

The shortcut's Start In is "c:\Program Files\FN\"

I'm using FN 8.1 Full Installation on Windows XP SP2.

You can trick FN to go to the desired folder by specifying a folder that doesn't exist. Instead of

Target: "C:\Program Files\FN\fnwin82.exe" c:\Program Files\FN\

use

Target: "C:\Program Files\FN\fnwin82.exe" c:\Program Files\FN\x

But be careful: if you select OK instead of a data folder, Navigator will ask if you want to create a new entity in the non-existant "x" folder: "No data files found...Create new data files." If you get this message, select No which will take you back to the Open screen.
