The Trial Balance report is based on FMV prices. Is there a way to print this report(excluding unrealized gains/losses) based on beginning and ending cash? i.e. cost basis at the beginning of the year and, if no transaction occurred during the year, showing the unchanged cost basis at the end?

I believe you probably have the Calculate Balances boxes checked and that is why you are printing Trial Balances with FMV. Go to "Investments" then "Investment Account Options" and click off the check for calculate balances for Investment Account and Executive Stock Options. You can then generate a cost basis report.

Both reports look exactly the same, Calculate Balances checked or unchecked.
Sample A (stock held during year):
Beg Bal: 100,000 (cost basis) / Activity: -5,000 (FMV adjusted)/End Bal: 95,000 (FMV at end of year)
Sample B (partial sale):
Beg Bal: 70,000 (cost basis) / Activity: -15,000 (cost basis, partial sale) -5,000 (FMV adjusted) / End Bal: 50,000 (FMV at end of year.
Ending cost basis of 55,000 is nowhere reflected. Please explain what I don't get. Thank you.

If you clear the option to Calculate Balances for Investment Accounts:

1. re-price all assets to their original cost price.
2. delete all unrealized gain/loss entries for the asset.

Then you would have a report that reflects only Cost Basis and activity for that asset resulting in a true ending Cost Basis.

With the option cleared and the adjustments to balances listed above made, your report would be accurate going forward.

At this time we do not have a report that tracks beginning Cost Basis, Activity and Ending Cost Basis if there is any price updating done on the assets.

We will put this on our enhancements request list.
