How can I move over the MICR printed on the bottom of the check. The bank says it needs to be moved over.

First find out if it is the entire line or just the on-us code that needs to be moved over.
Put check printed with CheckForm Navigator over a previously printed check from the bank. (See p17 of CFN 3.0 manual for picture.)

If the check# and the 9 digit Transit code are aligned but the on-us code needs to be shifted to the left then you just need to put a space in the beginning of the on-us code.
(See p23 for description for on-us code.)

However if everything needs to be moved then follow the instructions in the CheckForm Navigator Version 3.0 Reference Booklet on page 47 to edit the fnchkf1.des & fnchkf2.des files to change the left margin(leftmar).

Addendum: The instructions on page 48 of the CFN 3.2 manual imply that you need to enter a whole number instead of a fraction to move the MICR line by fractions of an inch. You should always enter fractions to adjust the MICR line by fractions of an inch. For example, if you wanted to move the MICR line 3/32 of an inch to the right you should replace the varinit leftmar 0 line with varinit leftmar 3/32" (be sure to include the quotation mark (") after the last digit). Therefore, the section in the fnchkf1.des & fnchkf2.des files would read:

;use the following to change the left margin for micr
;if printer is out of alignment
varinit leftmar 3/32" ;for normal alignment

To adjust the MICR position in CheckForm 4.0, see the CheckForm 4.0 Reference Guide, pages 41-42. When you view the CheckForm Layout, look for
;MICR Code
MICR_X:1.4
MICR_Y:6.6

Note the measurements are now in decimals instead of fractions.

Some users need to move the MICR about 1/4" to the left. They change the settings to
;MICR Code
MICR_X:1.685
MICR_Y:6.6

To test you settings, print a check and compare it to a check provided by your bank. If the bank's check is for the same account, they should match exactly:
* Same characters (except for check number)
* Same position

You can even use a bank's check from a completely different account, like your personal checking account. The order of the fields may be different, but you can check two things. Align the right sides of the two checks.
* Digits aligned (easiest to tell with zeros).
* Transit number fields aligned.
The transit number field starts and ends with a MICR symbol that looks like |:

You can also contact your bank and ask them to test the checks. They are usually happy to do this since it makes it easier for them to process your checks.

Another test is to look at the position of the |: symbol on the left side of the transit number. The left edge of the symbol should be about 5.7" from the right edge of the check. The blank checkstock we currently supply you has a small box there. The |: should be centered in that box. This is the easiest way to check your alignment.
