I can use FN just fine but I can't get CheckForm Navigator setup to run. I get an error message:
Error 53
c:\windows\system\mmp2lsr.bat

What's going on?

Error 53 means that one or more program files is missing or can't be found. The system is trying to find a file in the Windows/System folder. This can be caused by two things.

  1. Your Financial Navigator program may be in some folder other than x:\fn. It sounds like your FN program file somehow got installed in the Windows\System folder! To find out if this is true:
    • Start FN like you normally do.
    • Select Help | About Financial Navigator.
    • Make note of where the FN program file is; you'll see this about a third of the way down the "About" box. The path should read something like c:\fn\fnwin80.exe.
    • If your FN program is in the Windows/System folder, then you need to uninstall FN. Use Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs to uninstall FN. NOTE: Don't do this if FN is in the proper folder!
    • After you've uninstalled FN, reinstall it. Make sure that you specify the proper folder, such as c:\FN.
  2. If FN is in the proper folder (as shown above) and CheckForm Navigator still gets error 53, then the shortcut you're using to start FN may have the wrong properties. To find out if this is true:
    • Right-click on the shortcut you use to start FN. This may be a desktop icon or an item in the start menu. Whichever: just right click on it.
    • Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
    • Select the Shortcut tab.
    • The Start In box should contain the path to the folder where the FN program resides. This is usually c:\FN. If it's something strange, like C:\Windows\System, Financial Navigator and Checkform Navigator won't be able to find each other. Change the Start In to the path where the FN program is.
