The font device included in your package is what enables CheckForm Navigator (CFN) to print the bank codes and US postal code on the bottom line of your checks. They have to be in a special format/font for the bank machines to read them. There are 4 different types of font devices:
- Cartridge: plugs into a cartridge slot. This slot is visable from the exterior of the computer and looks almost like an 8 track cassette. Slide it into the cartridge slot.
- SIMM/DIMM: Similar styles with a little difference. Chips plug directly into the printer. The area they plug into is not visable from the outside of the printer. Where they plug into depends on the type of printer you are using. That information is covered in the printer manual. Please refer to your printer manual for more information on this.
- VersaPort CheckWriter: External "VersaPort" which plugs into the parrallel port on the printer. Connect the cable from the computer directly into the VersaPort. The VersaPort then is plugged into the printer parallel port. The VersaPort does have a reset/reload button located on it.
- CheckWriter Flash VersaPort: Identical to the "VersaPort CheckWriter" with two exceptions
- it also comes with a power cord. You will have to plug the power cord into the VersaPort and also into an electrical outlet for it to work.
- it is printer specific. It is not interchangeable with other printers.
Different Printer types and models use different devices. When you order CFN, the font device you need will be determined by the FN sales department and/or Memory Solutions - the company that provides the font devices.
