We are starting to print checks out of FN onto blank check stock. I need to make changes to the information that prints on the MICR line (character placement and size). I also need to change the bank name that prints on the check, and I need to reduce the number of asterisks that print in the written numerical line. Where can I change this information in FN? Thank you

Thanks for your questions. The answers below should help. If not, please reply to this topic.Change Position of MICR Code Pages 47-50 of the CheckForm Navigator Version 3.0 Reference Booklet explain how to move the MICR code horizontally and vertically. You should also read the post Adjust printing of MICR code in this Forum. Note that these are global settings—they affect all CFN checks printed, regardless of the entity. Change MICR Font Size Banks use only one MICR font size, and that is the size that prints on your checks. There is no need to change it. Change Bank Name That is easy. Just before printing a check: - select Select Printer | CFN Settings.
- Enter the bank information. The CheckForm Navigator Settings screen appears.
- Enter the desired bank information.
See pages18-20 of the CheckForm Navigator Version 3.0 Reference Booklet for detailed steps. Note that the bank information is stored separately for each entity and each bank account.Change the number of Asterisks before the Numeric Amount There is not a standard way to change the number of asterisks because the asterisks are automatically generated.. If you need to change them for a special purpose, we can investigate further to see if that is possible. - David FNI Technical Support [This message has been edited by David (edited 05-01-2008).]

The bank notified me that there are too many asterisks in both the written and numeric fields, so I will need to know how to change the number of asterisks that print. Also, the numeric field prints out shaded on the check. How do I remove the shading?Thank you. [This message has been edited by FN_User (edited 01-05-2005).]

Thanks for your reply. The asterisks and shading are printed on the check for security. If you remove them, it is easier to forge the amount. Perhaps your bank would reconsider. Meanwhile, we are researching a method to remove the shading. - David FNI Support [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 01-06-2005).]

I sent the bank a sample check, and they returned it with a report of "exceptions". For the asterisks, it says "reduce the number of asterisks in the written and numeric dollar amounts." It does not say why, so if we can't reduce the number of them, I will move the actual fields over to the left, so that the position is different. We started printing checks from our another checking accounts a couple of weeks ago, and I have not heard anything from them that there is a problem with the checks, so I don't know why the first bank is so strict. The report does specifically say to remove the shading, so I would like to do that. Thanks for your help! -Christine

Christine:Good news! You can now remove the shading that is normally around the numeric amount on your checks. Please contact FNI Technical Support for detailed instructions how to do this. As noted before, we don't recommend removing the shading, since that makes forgeries easier. - David FNI Support

I was able to remove the shading - thank you! One last question. I need to move the account number (or "on us" field) to the left. If I insert a space, it moves the field to the right, not the left. How can I do this?Thank you! :-)

Christine: Good work so far! See the CFN Forum post Adjust printing of MICR code for instructions how to move the entire MICR code, or just the transit code or the On-Us code. You are correct, adding a space to the On-Us code moves it to the left. To move it to the right, edit fnchkf1.des & fnchkf2.des, as described in that Forum post. This will move the entire MICR line to the left, which will fix the On-Us code position. If the Transit Code was correct and is now too far to the left, add blank space(s) to the Transit Code in the CFN Settings screen. Now both codes should be correctly positioned. - David FNI Support [This message has been edited by radiodave (edited 01-17-2005).]
