You can change the font of any of the text in CheckForm 4.0. Do this with caution because - Too large a font may cause the line to text to wrap to the next line and throw all the remaining line out of place.
- Other changes like bold may also offset the text and make the check unusable.
We recommend that the only change you make is the font size for the payor and the bank information. Before making any changes, back up the CheckForm Layout files. To back up the CheckForm Layout files: - Start to print a check but stop at the CheckForm Print Preview screen.
- Select Settings. The CheckForm Settings screen appears.
- Select Help | About CheckForm. The About CheckForm screen appears.
- Type "t" on the keyboard. A message appears "CheckForm set to test mode."
- Select OK twice.
- Select View | CheckForm Layout (1 Check) . Notepad opens and displays fnchkf1.des.
- Select File | Save As.
- Change the file name from fnchkf1.des to fnchkf1Default.des.
- Select Save.
- Select File | Exit to close notepad. The CheckForm Settings screen reappears.
- Select View | CheckForm Layout (2 Checks) . Notepad opens and displays fnchkf2.des.
- Select File | Save As.
- Change the file name from fnchkf2.des to fnchkf2Default.des.
- Select Save.
- Select File | Exit to close notepad. The CheckForm Settings screen reappears.
To change the font size: - Start to print a check but stop at the CheckForm Print Preview screen. If you just saved the layout file above, skip this step and go to step 6.
- Select Settings. The CheckForm Settings screen appears.
- Select Help | About CheckForm. The About CheckForm screen appears.
- Type "t" on the keyboard. A message appears "CheckForm set to test mode."
- Select OK twice.
- Select View | CheckForm Layout (1 Check) if you print 1 check per page or View | CheckForm Layout (2 Checks) if print 2 checks per page. Notepad opens and displays fnchkf1.des or fnchkf2.des
- Make the changes desired. The example below changes the bank name and payee name from 11 point font to 9 point.
- Bank Name: In Bank Address section, change BANKADD_FS1:11 to BANKADD_FS1:9. FS1 refers to the bank name, FS2 is the bank address lines. The number following the colon is the font size. The default font size for the bank name is 11 points.
- Payor Name: In the Payor Address section, change PAYORADD_FS1:11 to PAYORADD_FS1:9. FS1 refers to the payor name, FS2 is the payor address lines. The number following the colon is the font size. The default font size for the payor name is 11 points.
- Select File | Save.
- Select File | Exit. The CheckForm Settings screen reappears.
- Select Exit. The CheckForm Print Preview screen is reloaded with the new settings.
- Use the magnifying glass to view the new fonts. If not quite right, repeat steps 6-10 with a different font size.
- Select Print Check.
- Look at the printed check. If not quite right, repeat steps 6-12 with a different font size.

You can also move the Bank Address and the Payor Address if needed. In the fnchkf1.des or fnchkf2.des file, look for BANKADD_FX:0 BANKADD_FY:3.8 PAYORADD_FX:0 PAYORADD_FY:3.8FY is the vertical position from the top of the checkstock paper. For instance, change to 3.9 to move 0.1" down. FX is the relative horizontal postion in inches. Change to 0.1 to move 0.1" to the right. However, this only moves the bank name or payor name, not the address, so is not very useful. Also, negative numbers have no effect. - David FNI Technical Support
