We have discovered a problem an FN User experienced with Navigator Access and Windows 2000. We want to share it with all users:

"I am unable to download securities pricing information from FT Interactive through Navigator Access. The program attempts to login but hangs after the "Logging on…" message, and I do not receive any pricing data. I have to end the program through my Windows Task Manager in order to close it. I have re-installed Navigator Access and verified my user name, password, host name (idcrp.intdata.com) and port number (60001). It still does not work."

If you have reinstalled Navigator Access and it did not solve your problem you should check the integrity of your Windows System files. These System files can become corrupted and they must be replaced for your Windows applications to function correctly.

Solutions:

I. Service Pack & Re-install

a. Install the latest version of the Microsoft Windows2000 Service Pack (SP2 or higher) to ensure you have the latest Windows Library files. Retrieve pricing data with Navigator Access after you have finished installing the latest Windows2000 Service Pack.

b. If the Windows2000 service pack update did not fix your problem, re-install Navigator Access. If you are running a network version of the software, do a Workstation install. Otherwise, do a Full install if you are running Navigator Access from your local machine.

II. Compare & Replace System Files

Below is a list of Windows DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files that are used when retrieving information from FT Interactive. These DLL files are a part of the Windows operating system and are not installed by Navigator Access.

A qualified Windows Systems professional should compare your Windows2000 System files with those on a Windows2000 machine that is able to download prices via Navigator Access from FT Interactive. Replace any or all of the following Windows System files that do not match the version number, file size, or date of the same files on the working machine.

The following Windows System files are located in the \WINNT\System32 directory:

SETUPAPI.DLL
USERENV.DLL
RASAPI32.DLL
RASMAN.DLL

winrnr.dll
rasadhlp.dll
msafd.dll
OLEAUT32.DLL
wshtcpip.dll

If you do not have access to a second Windows2000 machine that is able to download price information from FT Interactive, have your Systems administrator ensure that the above System files are uncorrupted by comparing them to the originals provided by Microsoft on the Windows2000 CD.
