This program has not worked in a long while. Today when I attempted running Navigator Access. The wdci.log file that generated had older connection data in it, like April 2005. I did a search and renamed all of the wcdi.log to wcdi.old thinking the file would recreate itself. It did not. I then changed the wcdi.old file back to .log. Now I get wcdi.log file not found when trying to click Retrieve. I am doing this from within Financial Navigator. I then tried going in through FN Access and I get "no symbols in symbol file sym2.prn". We have a network installation so I choose the sym2.prn from the network installation folder. I still get a log file with connection data of 4/5/05. This has not worked for a long time and we need support. I did uninstall, delete the log file and reinstall as suggested by the forum but still getting same result.
Thanks

Hello,

Let's tackle this issue one problem at a time. The first problem is that you get a "wcdi.log file not found" error when selecting Retrieve, correct?

In order to resolve this, let me try to understand your configuration:

1. In Financial Navigator, what does it say on the Help | About Financial Navigator screen under next to "FNWinn Exe:"? It should be your FN application path.

2. In Navigator Access, what does it say on the Help | About Navigator Access... screen under next to "Exe:"? It should be your NA application path.

3. Find your wcdi.log file in your FN program folder using Windows Explorer. Left click on the filename and select Properties. Tell me what it says the filename is in the very first box. It should be "wcdi.log" and not "wcdi.log.txt" or anything similar.

Please respond to this post and let me know what you find out. Thank you.

Sincerely,

George

Verify the settings in the wdci.ini file in the windows folder. They should be:

[app]
logfile=WDCI.LOG
paramfile=idcdata.PAR
usetimer=No
waittime=14:15:35
waitdate=1996/09/22

[files]
inputfile=symidc.prn
outputfile=idc.prn
appendoutput=0
appendlog=0
logfile=Y

[CONFIG]
default_dir=F:\
home_dir=F:\
IDC_Host=idcrp.intdata.com 60001

The wdci.log was empty so I added the content you specified. Now when you hit Retrieve in Navigator Access, the WDCI.log notepad pops showing the informatino I added but nothing happens after that.

Hello,

The settings are for the wdci.INI file, NOT for the wdci.LOG file. The log file is written over everytime you download.

The wdci.INI file has the settings needed for Access to find the correct input & output files. If you can, please post the content of this file so I can take a look. Simply copy and paste it into your next reply.

Again, it is located in your Windows folder.

Hi,
My mistake. I meant to say wdci.ini file. Here are the contents of the file:

[app]
logfile=WDCI.LOG
paramfile=idcdata.PAR
usetimer=No
waittime=14:15:35
waitdate=1996/09/22

[files]
inputfile=symidc.prn
outputfile=idc.prn
appendoutput=0
appendlog=0
logfile=Y

[CONFIG]
default_dir=F:\
home_dir=F:\
IDC_Host=idcrp.intdata.com 60001

Sorry for the mixup. We did edit the correct file, we just typed the wrong name on the Forum here.

Meanwhile, we reinstalled Access on the server and told it to install a new configuration file. It seems to be connecting and getting most of the prices (it can't find some).

But when we Access Prices to Update Securities, FN stops on symbols like "BGF" indicating it is not getting prices for them. We checked and "BGF" is on the symbol list, and is not on the list of symbols Access/IDC could not price. So it should be priced. Actually, I'm not sure if anything is pricing--I haven't checked yet.

Why isn't the BGF price updating?

Hello,

When you use Access to retrieve prices, only select the "BGF" symbol from the list. Just highlight the symbol in your list. Click retrieve. Once the price is retrieved, browse to your FN program folder and look for your APR2.PRN file. This is your price file. It contains the latest prices that you have downloaded. Open this file using Notepad and look at the date that is displayed for "BGF". Is the date correct?

Hello,

So when you go to FN and select Investments | Access Prices to Update Securities does it not update "BGF" with the price that is in your APR2.PRN file? Is the price per share different or same as in your APR2.PRN file?

Let me know what you find out. Thanks.

No, it is not the same. I looked at the
detail of the account for the year &
it is the same amount as 03/31/05.
Our access expires on 1/31/06, are we going
to be able to figure this out by then?

Hello,

1. What is the valuation date that you are using when selecting 'Acess Prices to Update Securities...' or 'Navigator Access...'?

2.What is the Valuation Date that appears for "BGF" on the Asset & Liability screen after you've run 'Acess Prices to Update Securities...' or 'Navigator Access...'?

1. January 6, 2006

2. January 6, 2006

The security price is from prior year.

Hello,

Let me make sure I understand where we are currently. Please review the following list and verify that you have performed these steps as indicated. Tell me if I'm missing anything or if something isn't accurate. Please reply to the questions for some of the items.

1. You are using year 2006 data file.

2. You are able to start Access from within FN.

3. You enter January 6, 2006 as the Valuation Date for Access.

4. Access loads your list of symbols.

5. You are able to download for symbol "BGF".

6. After download, your APR2.PRN file now has the January 6, 2006 (060106) price for "BGF". The date in the file should read: "BGF", 14.55 ,060106, 5.

7. After download, you are prompted "Access Prices to Update Securities?". You select Yes.

8. When updating prices, FN stops on account with symbol "BGF" indicating that it does not have a price for the security. Does this account actually have the symbol "BGF"?

Please make sure that you have done all of the above activities and that I am not missing a detail. Afterwards, can you also check the following?

a. What does it say for the 'Start-in' folder when you right click on the Navigator Access icon and select Properties. What does it say for FN's icon?

b. Open the FPR2.PRN file in your FN program folder. Is symbol "BGF" listed? What is the date?

Let me know what you find out. Thanks.

The following are the ones that are different from your list.

8)It does not allways stop on BGF.

a.)The start in says C:\FN
and the target says F:\

b.)It is not listed

Does it matter if the symbols are small or
big cap?

Hello,

It sounds like you may have had an FN installation on your C:\ drive before and that is causing the confusion. When I refer to your FN program folder I am talking about your current FN 8.2 folder which should be on F:\.

a. Please change the 'Start In' portion to F:\ for both Access and Financial Navigator. Also, the 'Target' portion should read F:\fnwin82.exe for Financial Navigator and F:\naccess.exe for Navigator Access.

After making the change:

1. Download your prices once again through FN (Investments | Navigator Access).
2. "Access Prices to Update Securities" and see if your prices are now updated.
3. Look in your FN program folder (F:\), and verify BGF has the new price in your APR2.PRN file.
4. Look in your FN program folder (F:\), and verify BGF is in your FPR2.PRN file with the new price.

Let me know what you find out. Thanks.

It worked. The only problem I have is
when I open my Navigator it is asking me
to set up data. Is there a way to do
a short cut?

Thanks,

It sounds like FN has found data files in your FN program folder. Because you are prompted with the "Welcome..." screen, it sounds like this set of data files have not been set up. This happens when you accidently create a new entity in the FN program folder but don't actually go through the setup process. The solution is to move the data files out of the FN program folder.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to your FN program folder. Look for files with a .DAT extension. For example: USR2.DAT, ACT2.DAT, TRN2.DAT, etc. Move ALL of the .DAT files out of the FN program folder to a new folder, like "C:\TempData" for example. You can use FN to open this set of data files in the new folder. If you determine that this is a valid entity then you should keep it. If not, you may want to delete it.

Let me know if this solves your problem. Thanks.
